Seekonk Speedway Announces Revamped Fast Friday Schedule for 2020
LETS GO RACING!
SEEKONK, Mass. — After additional guidance by the state of Massachusetts, Seekonk Speedway announced on Friday the revamped Fast Friday schedule for the 2020 season. The new slate includes 14 Friday nights of competition — starting Friday, July 10— and rolling through October 9, where champions of the 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Series will be crowned.
Seekonk’s Fast Friday divisional sponsors and longtime supporters Seekonk Grand Prix (Bandolero) and Helger’s Southcoast Power Equipment (Pure Stocks) are back for another year of exciting racing. Sponsorship packages for the Sport 4 division are still available.
Everett’s Auto Parts, another longtime supporter of the third-mile, will sponsor the overall Diamond Jubilee Series for 2020. Seekonk Speedway wishes to thank these sponsors, and all of the sponsors that support Fast Friday & Saturday racing. The track realizes the hardships facing businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciates any support for the season as Everetts continues to strive to find ways to give back to the racers at Seekonk Speedway.
The 75th Anniversary Everett’s Auto Parts Diamond Jubilee Series begins in just seven days.
Fast Friday racing will run without fans to start, with expectations for fans to return to the grandstands soon. Race teams can come to the track with their entire crew for competition through the pit gates. All social distancing protocols will remain in place, with six feet distance between patrons required unless they are of the same pit crew. Masks are required when you can’t be six feet apart from others, per Executive Order in the state of Massachusetts.
Teams will receive additional information from track officials over the next few days. There will be one final tune-up session on Wednesday, July 8, from 4-8 p.m., for Fast Friday teams only. Seekonk still remains confident that Saturday night racing will occur in 2020, with a tentative target date of August 1 for the drop of the first green flag. More information will be released on Saturday nightracing and spectator attendance once available.
Different than past years, there will be no breaks in Fast Friday competition through the summer. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars, Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero’s, Helger’s Southcoast Power Equipment Pure Stocks and Sport 4’s will compete in all events. As part of the season, Everett’s Auto Parts will sponsor the 2020 Diamond Dash…three marquee, extra-distance events for each division, where the Legends Cars, Pure Stocks and Sport 4’s will run 30 laps and the Bandolero’s remaining at 15 circuits. All of the special event races will occur on the same night: July 24, August 14 and September 11.
“We are grateful to the state of Massachusetts for allowing us to begin the 2020 Fast Friday season,” Ed St. Germain, Seekonk’s Director of Business Development, said. “Although we will miss our great race fans at the beginning, we are hopeful we can get them back in the grandstands as soon as possible.”
On Friday, September 4, the Nick’s Pit Stop Memorial Race, a special event for the Legends Cars, will also be 30 laps in distance. The race will honor the parents of Nick’s Pit Stop owner Keith Lascuola, who passed over the offseason. A second special event sponsored by Nick Lascuola Racing will be announced soon.
Gerry’s General Maintenance will join the Fast Friday sponsor rolls with a contingency sponsorship for the legends Feature Winners every week. Seekonk would also like to thank Phils Propane, Ocean State Oil, First Ford, PLP Sealcoating, Chick Fil A, Bristol Toyota, Elmwood Dodge, Columbus Energies, Troy City Tactical, Viper Graphics, KC’s Burger Bar, Chaz Auto Body and everyone else who makes racing at Seekonk possible.
Seekonk Speedway is grateful for the work of all race teams to follow protocols during step one and two of the track’s reopening process. The track is happy to begin Friday night racing in just one week and looks forward to a thrilling 75th-anniversary summer at Seekonk Speedway.
