Star Speedway 7/11/20 Race Report
Eaton and Babb raced wheel to wheel for several laps before Eaton finally moved ahead for good, taking the checkers at the head of the field to collect a hard-earned victory. Third-generation Super pilot Bobby Timmons III finished up the podium with his best effort of the year in third.
Jeffrey Battle came across the finish line in the fourth spot, wih his teammate and uncle, Eddie Witkum, Jr. rounding out the top five. Defending champ Dave Helliwell, Kenny White, Jr., Mike Netishen Mike Keddy, and “Billstic” Bill Helliwell were sixth through tenth.
In the Woody’s Auto Street Stocks, Kingston veteran Jim Storace added his name to the list of 2020 feature winners, holding off some tough challenges to score a long-overdue win. Halfway through the race, Max Dolliver of Londonderry got underneath Storace looking for the lead, but after a couple of laps side by side, Storace reclaimed to top spot.
In the closing laps, Tim Boyle worked past Dolliver and set his sights on Storace, but he came up short by about a car length when the checkers waved. Dolliver collected third place honors, followed by Bill Clement, Travis Lovejoy, Luke Grammont, Ron Bolduc, Austin Erickson, Adam Lovejoy, and Josh Plourde.
Hometown racer Josh Bilodeau picked up his first win of the season in the Six Shooter main event, outrunning the field to post the victory. Last week’s winner Nathan LeClair made a late-race charge to finish in the runner-up spot, with Adam Knowles taking down third.
Fourth went to Brandon Flanders, with rookie sensation Joey Fraser rounding out the top five. A graduate of the Star Troopers youth division, Fraser is quickly making a name for himself in the Six Shooter ranks
Another Trooper who moved up for 2020, Jimmy Connor put in a solid run in the Pure Stock main to grab career win number one over another impressive youngster, Clark Brooks, a winner in the season opener. Veteran Jim Walsh joined to kids on the podium with a third-place finish.
T.J. Laro of Franklin backed up his win in the season opener for the new-for-2020 Slingshot division, posting his second win of the season in the feature. Mike Ramsey scored runner-up honors, with Justin Gailloux of Waterboro, ME rounding out the podium in third.
