Labor Day Fast Friday Spectacular at Seekonk Speedway this Week

SEEKONK, Mass. — Seekonk Speedway is celebrating Labor Day in a whole new way in 2020 due to COVID-19. This weekend, with no spectators in attendance due to restrictions from the state of Massachusetts, Seekonk will run the Labor Day Fast Friday Spectacular on September 4. It will be a night filled with the normal Fast Friday divisions, but with extra bonus cash on the line for some of the divisions.

The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars headline the night with the Nick Lascuola Summer Showdown, a 35-lap race for the Legends Cars that is $1,000 to win. It’s the largest paying Legends race in Seekonk’s history — and will also pay $500 for second-place and $250 for third. Additional purse money is also available. The standard qualifying procedures for the Legends will be used, with group qualifying — but the driver that sets the fastest lap will draw a number for an invert of up to seven cars. The rest of the field will be started just as they qualified.

The Helger’s Southcoast Power Equipment Pure Stocks will compete in a 30-lap feature, the Spring Villa Bonus Race — worth $350 to win, $100 for second, and $50 for third. Lambert Brothers Racing was also a supporter of some of the winnings for the Pure Stock race. The Sport 4 division will also compete in a 30-lap feature, another Spring Villa Bonus race — worth $150 to win, $100 for second, and $50 for third.

The Seekonk Grand Prix Bandolero Bandits and Outlaws return to the track with their own events — a 15-lap feature for both the Bandits and the Outlaws. Last week, Richie Helger Jr. earned his first career Bandit win, while Brenden LaBelle picked up the Outlaw win.

“I really just wanted to do a bigger show for all of the people that support Seekonk Speedway and the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends Cars,” Nick Lascuola, owner of Nick Lascuola Racing, said. “We don’t really get many big shows like this. I wanted to give back and put some more money on the line for everyone that comes week in and week out.”

A large group of sponsors has joined Friday’s events, including Nick Lascuola Racing, Spring Villa and Lambert Brothers Racing. Outside of them, the Legends race specifically has more than a handful. Nick’s Pit Stop, with owner Keith Lascuola, will provide $140 to the driver that sets the fastest time in standard group qualifying, while Joey Parker Racing will provide $100 to the driver that advances the most positions during the race — the hard charger award.

Newcomb’s Tree Service, Keller Motorsports, Trent Goodrow Designs, Lebrun and Landscape Construction, and Titan Vet Clinic have also provided award winnings towards the Legends race.

Although there are no fans allowed through grandstands, updates will be posted on Seekonk’s social media channels throughout the night, and full race videos of each race will be available the next day.
