Jason Moll Returns to Win Weedsport’s James Shutts Memorial

WEEDSPORT, NY (September 21, 2020) – Jason Moll made his triumphant return to the world of karting on Sunday afternoon, driving to the win in Weedsport Kartway’s PRO Clone Super Heavy James Shutts Memorial, worth $742.

Moll took advantage of a torrid battle between early leaders Tony Bootes and Mike Silvernail in order to grab the lead, eventually holding off late charges from Chance Weaver, Jared John, Robby Eastman and Bill Allen in the top five spots.

A total of 23 drivers checked in for the Super Heavy special, with John laying down the day’s top time trial lap to start on the pole position ahead of Tommy Barnes, Justin Pier, Jordan Hutton and Logan Winn.

John would lead early before giving way to Bootes and Silvernail, who had quickly worked their way through the pack from the mid-field.

After starting ninth, Moll began to emerge as a contender past halfway and found his way by to the lead after an incident cleared several karts in the first turn on lap 12.

Once the race got going again, Weaver and 16th starting, Freddy Kiefer, would pressure Moll up until a late race restart when the clutch bolt on the Kiefer No. 12 broke, leaving John and Weaver as Moll’s primary rivals.

However, Moll proved too much for the James Shutts Memorial field leading Weaver, John, Eastman, Allen, Tyler Henry and Matt Chavis across the line.

Jude Parker won the James Shutts Memorial B-Main to gain entry into the 22-lap special along with Allen, Kyle Hart and Joe Isabell.  Allen would be declared the event’s Hard Charger.

In PRO Clone 360 action it would be Chris Natoli finally getting the monkey off his back, taking the $500 win on Sunday.  Natoli dominated the 25-lap run by more than 3-seconds over Tanner Emmons, Dan Marsden, Jamie Shutts and David Hackett Jr.

The adult point classes saw some tight racing, including a green to checkered run in Clone Heavy, which was won by Jon Keister.  Keister finished the 25-lap race in only 4:49-seconds over Bootes, Natoli, John and Shutts.

Marsden would prove the man to beat in Clone Light on Sunday, distancing himself over runner-up Thomas Montgomery.  Hackett, Devin McGill and Taylor Doxtator would complete the top five in the day’s biggest class of 24 entries.

The Clone Super Heavy point race saw invaders Silvernail and Chavis best the rest of the pack.  Hart had a nice run in the third position with John and Nick McGill finishing the front five spots.

Seth Whitney pulled the double in the junior ranks on Sunday, winning both Jr. Blue Clone and Jr. Unrestricted.

Whitney topped Brittney Hackett, Riley Begy, Jacob Hutton and Chayton Young in Blue with Logan Crisafulli, Owen Bird, Dylan Begy and Hunter Hollenbeck trailing the No. 505 in Unrestricted.

Levi Herriven snagged another win in Jr. Red Clone over EJ Hatch, Mason Rogers, Joey Williams and Lyle Robinson.

Savannah Simmons came on strong in the late stages of Jr. Green Clone to win in dramatic fashion over point leader Ayden Silvernail.  Grayson Adderley, Cody Stebbins and Blake Banek finished the top five.

In Jr. Purple Clone it was Parker Allen continuing his winning ways topping Jason Parkhurst Jr., who made his first start of 2020.  Justin Crisafulli, Sam Heffner and Casey Pietrzak were the top five.

Weedsport Kartway will finish its 2020 season on October 17-18 with Octoberfest III.  Each day will be a full show of points classes, combined with PRO special events.  PRO Clone 360 ($1,000 to win), PRO Blue Clone ($300 to win) and the NYS Clone Invitational ($500 to win) will compete on Saturday, with PRO Clone 360 ($2,000 to win) returning Sunday along with PRO Clone Super Heavy ($500 to win) and PRO Jr. Unrestricted ($500 to win).
