Retribution for Rascoe at Thunder Valley, Wins STSS Cajun Region Race No. 2 – YankeeRacer.com

Retribution for Rascoe at Thunder Valley, Wins STSS Cajun Region Race No. 2

GLENMORA, LA – After watching a victory slip away in the series opener at Chatham Speedway, Tommy Rascoe gained retribution Saturday night at Thunder Valley Speedway.

Rascoe led through the final lap in the inaugural Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Cajun Region Modified event on April 3 only to watch Cody Robbins drive by for the win.

In event No. 2 of the Day Motor Sports point series, the Converse, La., native picked up the $1,075 victory, leading the 20-lap main from wire-to-wire at the Glenmora, La., bullring.

Rascoe becomes the second different winner in as many STSS Cajun Region events.

Rascoe launched off the pole of the main event, but the victory was far from easy.

Prior to the halfway mark, Caleb Dillard ducked to the inside of his father – Greg – to put the Tim Bates-owned No. 18 into second.

Rascoe found a home in the outside lane of the Derek Perkins-promoted oval, while Dillard utilized the low groove. For the entire second half of the event, the pair raced wheel-to-wheel with Greg Dillard lurking in third.

Dillard had pulled even with Rascoe on the 18th lap as the duo encountered slower traffic.

Dillard momentarily had to lift and Rascoe surged back ahead to take the victory, collecting $1,000 from the posted purse plus a $75 bonus for displaying the APE Engines decal on his car.

Many, La.’s Caleb Dillard placed second with Greg Dillard of Robeline, La., third. Keith Badiali of Benton, La., and Thomas Holt of Atlanta, Texas. Holt was the Shed Road Towing and Recovery Hard Charger, receiving an additional $50.

The 20-lap feature was slowed only once by a caution flag.

Heat winners were Cody Robbins (who was slowed by a flat tire in the feature) and Rascoe.

Next up for the series is Event No. 3 on Saturday, May 1 at 171 Speedway in Leesville, La., Race No. 3 of the Day Motor Sports point series.
