Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia teams travel to The Bend Motorsport Park in Tailem Bend for Round 2 of the 2021 series. The 4.95 km South Australian circuit is the second longest (behind Mount Panorama at 6.213km) of the current (confirmed) 2021 calendar and a favourite among Porsche 911 GT3 Cup drivers for its mix of fast and flowing corners.
This the third time The Bend Motorsport Park has hosted the national one-make series, with both previous rounds being won by Bob Jane T-Mart entries run by the Sonic Motor Racing team. 2018’s inaugural round was won by Michael Almond, while Jordan Love dominated all three races in the 2019 season, winning each of them by an average margin of 5.5 secs.
That round was also notable for the outstanding performances of Morris Finance Pro-Am drivers, with Liam Talbot finishing third outright in Race one Adrian Flack repeating that performance in Race two, together with a fourth overall in Race three.
Cameron Hill heads into The Bend aiming for his third consecutive round victory, having won both the shortened 2020 Australian Grand Prix and the opening round at Sandown International Raceway earlier this year. As in the Victorian round, Hill will again come under fire from a strong quartet of Michelin Junior drivers including Cooper Murray, Aaron Love, Christian Pancione and Harri Jones as well as a host of highly experienced Mobil Pro drivers including David Wall, Michael Almond, Craig Lowndes, Dale Wood, Nick McBride and Bathurst 1000 winner Luke Youlden to name but a few.
Max Vidau also marks his return to the series this round and the hard-charging Sonic Motor Racing driver is also likely to be a factor in what is one of the most competitive Mobil Pro classes in the series’ established history.
Round 1 Morris Finance Pro-Am winner, Stephen Grove, will sit out Round 2, to team-up with son, Brenton in the Porsche 911 GT3 R, to contest the GT World Challenge Australia series. With Grove out, Adrian Flack enters the round as a strong race favourite, with Geoff Emery, Tim Miles and The Bend Motorsport Park owner, Sam Shahin, also expected to be in the fight for class honours.
After two practice sessions on the Friday, teams contest a 20-minute qualifying on Saturday morning followed by a Sprint race that afternoon. A 45-minute Endurance race follows on Sunday morning before the final Sprint race of the weekend on Sunday afternoon. All three races will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo sports.
