Doug Coby Looks for First Riverhead Raceway Win in Miller Lite 200
MILFORD, Conn. — Doug Coby looks to break into Victory Lane for the first time at Riverhead Raceway in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competition on Saturday, May 15. In race three of the tour season — the Miller Lite 200 — Coby looks to erase a 19-race winless streak on Long Island. The six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion does have two finishes of second and has led 332 laps at the bullring, but is yet to hoist the checkered flag.
Coby enters the race eighth in the point standings after finishes of sixth at Martinsville Speedway and 12th at Stafford Motor Speedway. He will drive the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry in the 200-lap event.
“I’ve been close there, and a lot closer recently compared to the first few of the 19 starts, but I feel confident that we will be strong enough to run as a top-five car. If you can do that, you might put yourself in a position to win,” Coby said. “I think I’ve had cars there that were good enough to win — and circumstances have played out that only a track like Riverhead can present for us. It’s amazing to me that guys like Justin (Bonsignore), Timmy (Solomito) and Ryan (Preece) have won there so many times. It takes everything to go right to have a shot.”
The schedule for the Miller Lite 200 includes a final practice round from 3-4 p.m., with Mayhew Tools Dominator pole qualifying set to begin at 6 p.m. The Miller Lite 200 green flag is expected at 8 p.m., live on TrackPass via NBC Sports Gold, for those who can’t make it to the track. Fan capacity is allowed and tickets will be available at the gate.
