Chase Dowling to Drive for Doug Coby Racing in Whelen Modified Tour Action at Oswego Speedway

MILFORD, Conn. — Doug Coby Racing announced on Monday that Chase Dowling will drive the No. 10 Mayhew Tools entry in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, June 12. Team owner and driver Doug Coby is set to compete with the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) Series at his home track — Stafford Motor Speedway — and will be unable to compete at Oswego.

Dowling, a former Whelen Modified Tour winner, also grew up racing at Stafford — where he has 15 career wins between the premier SK Modifieds and SK Light Modifieds. As a current regular at Stafford, dirt driver, and driver for his own Open Modified team, Dowling will be competing in the Steel Palace 150 for Coby. In three previous Oswego starts, Dowling has a best finish of eighth.

“Obviously it’s a great opportunity when a six-time champion calls you to ask him to replace him for a race,” the 23-year-old Dowling said. “I’ve known the whole group for a while, they have a great team, with good equipment, resources and crew members. It’s a good fit. I’m really excited to work with all of Doug’s guys and go out there and do what is best for his race team and hopefully win.”

Team owner Doug Coby, who is excited to compete with SRX in their debut, is looking forward to seeing what Dowling can do behind the wheel of his ride.

“I wanted to pick someone to put in the car that could go out there and win the race,” Coby said. “Chase was at the top of my list. He fits right in the seat, and he’s local to Connecticut, he knows my (crew chief) Phil Moran well. He’s going to go out there and take care of the car and get the most out of it for us. I’m confident he will do his best behind the wheel and perform well for Mayhew Tools, our crew and our sponsors at Doug Coby Racing.”

The Steel Palace 150 at Oswego Speedway is set for Saturday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are available at JDVProductions.com and will also be available on the day of the race. Fans who can’t make it to the track can watch a live stream of the race through NBC Sports Gold and their TrackPass platform.
