ISMA Supermodifieds to Co-headline Mid-week Special with NEMA Midgets Boston Louie Memorial at Seekonk Speedway on June 9

SEEKONK, Mass. — The stars of the speed-filled and exciting ISMA Supermodifieds are set to return to Seekonk Speedway for the first time in a decade on Wednesday, June 9. Known for their wings and high speeds, ISMA competitors will circle Seekonk’s third-mile at near-record times and put on some of the best racing fans will see all year.

The special mid-week event also includes the NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites — set to compete in their Boston Louie Seymour Memorial events — with the NEMA portion set at 29-laps — and the NEMA Lite portion scheduled for 50 laps.

Former NASCAR Cup Series regular Ken Schrader will return to Seekonk as a special guest of the night, competing for Barry Kittredge in the 50-lap NEMA Lite special.

The 100-lap feature for ISMA will give drivers the opportunity to go all-out in search of the checkered flag. Top names expected include asphalt Modified stars Jon McKennedy and Anthony Nocella, and Supermodifieds regulars Ben Seitz, Mike Ordway Jr., Chris Perley and Otto Sitterly. As a nine-time Oswego champion, Sitterly will look for his first Seekonk triumph.

In nine previous ISMA events at Seekonk, six different drivers have been to Victory Lane. Only one driver has been able to carry the trophy more than once — ISMA veteran and former champion Chris Perley — who has three wins.

Bobby Santos III, who has been winning races across the country in a variety of different asphalt entries, is also expected. The race will see a battle of 2021 ISMA Supermodified stars, Oswego Speedway regulars, and more.

“The Boston Louie family and the fact that they are running the Memorial race with ISMA also there it makes it more prestigious and neat,” Santos said. “I just enjoy the Northeast, Supermodifieds… every chance I get I try to take advantage of it. It’s a quick little track, the biggest thing about Seekonk is momentum and getting into a good rhythm. The ISMA Supers are lightning-fast everywhere you go. They make every track feel fast.”

Event organizer Bobby Seymour is excited to see it all play out on June 9 and hopes this event becomes a tenured part of Seekonk’s schedule for years to come.

“The thing I want to express to everyone is that Boston Louie wasn’t just a Midget car owner, he used to love to go to Star Speedway and the Oswego Speedway and he knew some many of the guys there and enjoyed watching Supermodifieds” Seymour said. “He loved watching the Supermodifieds. I think it’s a great fit with NEMA and ISMA together. We hope to do this again in the future for many years.”

In NEMA Midget action, both divisions will honor the late “Boston Louie” Seymour, just like they have for over 20 years in the Boston Louie Seymour Memorial races. Seymour campaigned winning midgets, sprints and Silver Crown cars across America, and the event always brings together the top Midget competitors for what is considered one of the most prestigious races on the whole schedule.

Set to compete in the NEMA action, names like former event winner and multiple-time NEMA champion Randy Cabral and Avery Stoehr, are expected to be joined by names like Todd Bertrand, Jake Trainor, John Zych Jr,., Paul Scally and more. In the first NEMA Midget race of the season at Lee USA Speedway, Matt Merry stole the show en route to Victory Lane.

In the NEMA Lites, two races are already in the record books for the season — with former Seekonk Boston Louie winner PJ Stergios scoring the win at Star Speedway, and Santos heading to Victory Lane at Thompson Speedway’s Icebreaker weekend.

The Boston Louie is one of the most important races for drivers each year.

“Growing up as a Midget race fan in the late 1980s and 1990s, I would follow the Seymour’s and what they accomplished,” Randy Cabral said. “They made my goal to race Silver Crown Cars. When you show up to the Boston Louie race at Seekonk — you have to have your A-game. It’s the race everyone wants to go out there and win to honor the Seymour name. It’s a special race. Looking forward to getting back to Seekonk.”

Tickets to the Wednesday night special are $30 for adults, with children ages 6-12 set at $10. Anyone ages five and under are free if purchased at the track. Tickets are now available online at seekonktickets.net and will also be available at the track on race day.
