John Lukosavage Passes Away at 77

November 20, 1943 – July 20, 2021

Watertown: John W. Lukosavage, 77 of Park Rd passed away Tuesday, July 20th at his home.

John was born in Waterbury on November 20, 1943, son of the late John N. and Ida (Poggi) Lukosavage. He was a lifelong Watertown resident. John was an accomplished welder and owned Universal Welding & Equipment Co. Inc. in Watertown, until his retirement
John’s lifelong work and passion was dedicated to auto racing. He was a prominent race car builder and owner of SK Modifieds at Stafford Motor Speedway in the early 1970’s. He went on to become a primary sponsor for several of the best drivers in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Series and was helpful in launching the careers of several very successful NASCAR drivers.

John was proud of his family home (one of the oldest in Watertown) which he meticulously restored and maintained. He also loved his dogs.
John was an ardent supporter of the Watertown Fire and Police Departments.
He is survived by a sister Carole Lukos of Thomaston, a niece Laura Westby and her husband Kie of Southbury, a nephew Michael Brasche and his wife Bridgette of Thomaston, great nieces and nephews, Sarah, Rachel, Michael, and Danielle, a great grand niece Liana, and his  companion Maggie Flahive with whom he made his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 30th 10:00am at St John the Evangelist Church 574 Main St. Watertown. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery will be held at a later date. Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 29th from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Hickcox Funeral Home Inc. 195 Main St. Watertown.
