Holleman IV – Fleming Twin 25 Winners

Bowman Gray Stadium
Sat. July 30, 2021

Rookie sensation John Holleman IV (Winston Salem, NC) took down win #3 of 2021 at the Bowman Gray stadium. Quite an accomplishment since the last rookie to win three events in one season was by Glen Wood in 1953.

Holleman was fastest in time trials earlier in the day when he turned in a time of 13.377 on the quick Bowman Gray oval.

Starting on the pole in the first of two twenty-five lap features Holleman and Brandon Ward (Winston Salem NC) brought the twenty-five car field down to flagger Randy Smith. Holleman shot into the lead and never relinquished it for the entire event. Ward ran second following in Holleman’s tire tracks. Even though three caution periods, Ward could never gain an advantage on the quick Holleman IV.

Finishing behind Holleman and Ward were Burt Myers (Walnut Cove NC) third, Jason Myers (Walnut Cove NC) fourth and Lee Jeffreys (Wallburg NC) fifth.

Making his first start at Bowman Gray, Max Zackem of Preston, CT gained 4 spots to finish an impressive 13th.

In the second 25 lap feature Chris Fleming “the show stopper” (Mount Airy NC) and Danny Bohn (Huntersville NC) led the hungry pack to the start and Fleming wasn’t waiting around as he roared off with the lead while a battle ensued for second place between Bohn, Tim Brown (Tobaccoville NC)  and Lee Jeffreys (Wallburg NC).

Brown settled into second place and chased Fleming for the rest of the event. Three yellow flags slowed the event briefly but Fleming held the advantage each time and sped away for the win. Brown had to settle for second place. Jeffreys was third on the leader board while the Myers brothers rounded out the top five, Burt 4th, Jason 5th.

Zackem turned in another outstanding run finishing in the top 10.

The Sportsman division sponsored by Thunder Road Grill ran twin 20 lap events and in the first event, Amber Lynn came from the second row, took the lead on lap seven, and never looked back for her fourth win of her career. It was her first win in 2021.

The second 20th lap Sportsman event featured Spencer Martin turning in an outstanding performance by starting mid-pack and methodically working his way to the front. Five caution periods helped him gain positions and with four laps to go, he powered into the lead to gain his second career victory.

The Stadium Stock division ran their annual 50 lap marathon and Branden Brendle came out victorious for the 5th time in his career.
