Whelen Modified Tour Teams to Race for Over $2,000 in Bonus Money In Stafford’s GAF Roofing 150 Celebrating the Life of Don King

(Stafford Springs, CT)—The Whelen Modified Tour returns to Stafford Speedway for their second of three visits during the 2021 season this Friday, August 6th for the 30th Annual GAF Roofing 150.  Thanks to the King Family and Ramar-Hall, WMT drivers will be racing for over $2,000 in bonus money with payouts for unique achievements that will celebrate the life of former WMT car owner Don King, who passed away in early June after battling bone cancer.

The winner of the GAF Roofing 150 will receive a bonus of $1,280, while the leader of lap-28, the 28th place finisher, and the youngest driver who finishes the race in the top-10 will each receive a bonus of $280, making for a total of $2,120 in bonus money.

“We decided to do this at Stafford for several reasons,” said Christie King, daughter of Don King.  “My father owned several cars in different divisions over the years, but he really loved the Modified Tour and Stafford was the main track where my father raced before getting into the Modified Tour.  We wanted to do amounts and achievements that correspond with 28 obviously because that was his car number.”

King gave several drivers their first taste of life on the Whelen Modified Tour with drivers like Jamie Asklar, Doug Coby, Tyler Haydt, James Civali, and Woody Pitkat all piloting King’s #28 car before veteran Ed Flemke, Jr. drove the car.

“One of our biggest things was to have an award for the youngest driver because my father was always all about giving a young driver an opportunity,” continued King.  “Whether it was in racing or in life, my father was always about giving someone an opportunity that they might not be able to get themselves.  It’s going to be a day full of mixed emotions for us.  We’re going to have over 50 family and friends as well as some old crew members from the #28 car coming to the race so it’s going to be like a reunion and I’m sure we’ll all be watching and keeping track of who wins each award.  It’s going to be a lot of fun and I think this is something that my father would have really enjoyed.”

The 30th Annual GAF Roofing 150 is scheduled for this Friday, August 6.  Stafford’s SK Modified®, Late Model, SK Light, Limited Late Model, and Street Stock divisions will join the Whelen Modified Tour in feature action.  Tickets for the GAF Roofing 150 are available now online at StaffordSpeedway.com/tickets and tickets will also be available for purchase at the admission gates.  Tickets for the GAF Roofing 150 are $40.00 for adults, $10.00 for kids 6-14, and free for kids 5 & under.  Reserved seating is priced at $45.00 for all ages and pit passes are $50.00 with a valid 2021 Stafford Competition License and $55.00 without a Stafford license.  If you are unable to attend the event, tune into the live stream on FloRacing, the official streaming partner of Stafford Speedway.
