Helliwell 350 Super Modified Champ at Riverside

Dave Helliwell from Lee N.H. became the first 350 Super modified champion at Groveton’s Riverside Speedway and Adventure park. Helliwell was leading before the halfway point of the race when entering turn one the #01 put a giant cloud of smoke and put down oil which brought out the caution. It turns out the power steering had let go but Dave was able to continue. On the restart, Mike Keddy in his #79 got around the #8 of South Hiram Maine’s Brad Sanborn and took the win with Sanborn holding on for second and Sparky Mcgyver in third. Helliwell ended the night in fifth but that was enough to secure the championship in the Bay Haven Lobster Pound and Restaurant 350 Super Modifieds.

In the Claudette and Dean’s place DareDevils St, Johnsbury’s Brandon Sheldon got another win. Sheldon got around the #29 of Alexis Lunblad and drove out to a 6 car length lead and took the first place trophy. Lunblad hung on to finish second and Connor Charboneau picked up third. Charbonneau also won the qualifying heat.

In the Bonestock 6&8 cylinder Bonestocks Floyd Bennett JR. got the early lead but soon Maine’s Jamie Heath came calling and the two front runners went side by side for many laps but Heath just couldn’t get around Bennetts #90. When the checkered flag waved Bennett got the hard-fought win with Heath a strong second and Groveton’s Mike Sherburne finishing in third.

The EKeys4cars Formula Fours saw 2020 bone stock 4 cylinder champion Ryan Heuser pick up his second win of the season but the battle of the race was for the second spot as Morrisville’s Mekayla Bowen and current point leader Bryan Putney put on a great show as Putney could get beside Bowen but just couldn’t get by. Bowen got a fine second-place finish with Putney settling for third.

The Bad Boy Mowers of Morrisville 4 Cylinder Bonestocks had two main events this week to make up for a rained-out feature from earlier this season. In the first go-round Tanner Amyot Put the #73 out front and held on for his first career win. Jefferson’s Chris Cass battled last week’s winner Cody Hodge for the second spot with Cass in second and Hodge in third.

In the second main event, Maine’s Nick Ogden put his #9 out front and got another victory with Cody Hodge and Groveton’s Julien Kenison duking it out for second place. Hodge won the battle as he finished in second place with Kenison in the third spot.

Certainly a great night of racing. At intermission the kid’s backpacks for school give away, Race to Learn, was a big success with 103 backpacks given out and also four special prizes for the youngsters who will be heading back to school shortly. Thank you to all that donated backpacks, supplies, and cash donations.

Update: Some finishes will change as a result of cars not passing tech.
