“An Evening with Mario Andretti” November 5 at Greenwich Odeum
Mario Andretti is visiting the Greenwich Odeum in E. Greenwich, RI next Friday. Joe Rocco and Gene Valicenti will host the event discussing his incredible career.
Andretti is one of the most accomplished race car drivers. He won the 1967 Daytona 500, 1969 Indianapolis 500, and 1978 Formula 1 championship. A four-time IndyCar champion, Andretti has the most poles (67) and ranks second in career wins (52). He also won races in Sports Cars, Midgets, and Sprint Cars, part of 111 wins since 1961.
He retired from driving in 1994. He attended the commencement for the New England Institue of Technology in Providence on May 7, 1995, being given an honorary Doctor of Science and “America’s Finest” award.
The Rhode Island Italian-American Hall of Fame will present him with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Net proceeds will go to their scholarship fund.
