THUNDER ROLLS: Super DIRTcar Series set to invade Can-Am Speedway April 9

The Series makes its first New York stop of the season at the Thunder on the 1000 Islands with the DIRTcar Pro Stocks

LaFargeville, NY – March 9, 2022 – A welcomed thunder will rumble through upstate New York again for the first time in six months when the Super DIRTcar Series returns to Can-Am Speedway on Saturday, April 9.

The Thunder on the 1000 Islands in LaFargeville will mark The Beast of the Northeast’s first of many Empire State stops this year.

Drivers like eight-time and defending Series champion Matt Sheppard, 2019 Series champion Mat Williamson, 2022 DIRTcar Nationals Big Gator champion Jimmy Phelps, 2021 Big Gator Champion Max McLaughlin, Peter Britten, along with a plethora of the premier Big Block Modified drivers in the country, will be in attendance to tame the 75-lap event.

Can-Am will serve as the third points race of the 2022 season and an early chance for Sheppard to build toward his ninth Series title, behind the wheel of his #9s Big Block. The Waterloo, NY native – about two hours from Can-Am – has two wins at the track (2009 and 2019). However, he was unable to crack the top-five there the last two years.

Rookie of the Year contender Anthony Perrego, of Montgomery, NY, earned his second career Super DIRTcar Series win at Can-Am in 2020 during OktoberFAST. Now, behind the wheel of the iconic #4* for Vinny Salerno this season, Perrego will be a favorite to try and repeat against the stout field.

NASCAR Truck Series star Stewart Friesen, of Niagra-on-the-Lake, ON, is the defending winner of the Thunder on the 1000 Islands and will carry momentum into the event as he already picked up a Series win this year in Florida during DIRTcar Nationals. Joining him in that category are Britten, Williamson, McLaughlin and Phelps.

Billy Dunn, of Watertown, NY – about 30 minutes from the speedway – will also join the battle to claim the $7,500 win. Dunn enters the event with winning confidence as he picked up multiple wins at the speedway last year in his 358 Modified and won the overall 2021 DIRTcar 358 Modified championship.

Joining the Super DIRTcar Series at Can-Am Speedway will be the DIRTcar Pro Stocks for their season opener.
