Chemistry Sets Sesely Up for Syracuse Victory

Middleport, NY (March 29, 2022): Anthony Sesely from Port Monmouth, NJ, has raced with car owner Rick Kluth of Brockport, NY, in asphalt Modified competition for nearly four seasons. Early this year, the duo joined forces with Jeff Ulrich of Middleport, NY, to campaign in the final two races of the Indoor Auto Racing Championship Fueled by VP Racing Fuels. The team found immediate chemistry and a pair of newly designed 2KWIK Chassis TQs were quick off the trailer.

The culmination of hard work and ingenuity paid off earlier this week when Sesely was declared the winner of the Syracuse finale. A tire from the apparent race winner failed to meet Hoosier Tire benchmarks after an independent laboratory analysis.

“You hate getting wins like that but our cars were really fast throughout indoor season,” said Sesely. “They definitely knew we were there. Rick and Jeff gave me the best equipment and allowed me to race my way back to the front and in contention for the win.”

The team found speed at Atlantic City in a new car, winning a prelim on Friday night. Overheating issues in the Gambler’s Classic sidelined Sesely on Saturday while leading. It appeared as if mechanical failure would once again cause heartbreak for the team in Syracuse as a fitting began leaking with Sesely in the lead. A fortuitous caution at lap 13 (of the 40-lap event) and an extended cleanup for fluid from a fellow competitor’s car allowed the team to replace a fuel line and a shut-off valve.

“The show of sportsmanship by other teams was the key to us getting back into the race,” said co-owner Rick Kluth. “We had really fast cars but if it’s not out on the track, you can’t race for the win.”

Sesely was able to rejoin the field; restarting deep in the pack.  After meticulously working his way through the field, he caught the leader with less than two laps to go to be in contention for the win. The apparent runner-up finish was a cause for celebration, now made sweeter with the victory.

“I didn’t expect it,” said co-owner Ulrich of the announcement.

“Indoor TQ Racing allows you to think outside the box and create something unique, which is why I got involved,” added Ulrich.

The strong performances were made possible through the support of the entire Kluth Motorsports and Anthony Sesely Racing teams as well as sponsors Hydro-Fabrication, Schultz Engineering, and Planter Box Direct.

“We need to give special thanks to Dom Ciliberto and Planter Box Direct for their support,” added Ulrich. “They came on board for the Syracuse race adding to the winning combination.”

While Sesely did not get a formal celebration, thanks to his nephew and fellow racer Sean and young members of the Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club, “Uncle” received a victory celebration back at the race shop complete with confetti, a big check and a driver interview.
