ATQMRA Introduces New Qualifying Format in 2022
Monday, April 25th, 2022 –HOWELL, NJ- While the excitement and anticipation builds for a new Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA fueled by VP Racing Fuels Season to kick off this weekend at Wall Stadium Speedway, many eyes will be focused on a new qualifying format beginning at the fourth points-paying event this season.
Teams will now pill draw for feature starting position over the course of the 2022 season. While the traditional handicap will remain intact (based on car’s previous three feature finishes) to line-up heat races, qualified positions from the heat will pill-draw for their feature starting line up, rather than automatically starting based on their handicap.
Furthermore, the top-4 finishers from the previous week’s feature, that qualified for the redraw out of their respective heat races, will start at the back of the redraw in an inverted order based on the previous week’s finish.
The goal of this new rule by series officials is to establish a fair format for all competitors, regardless if they are considered of part-time or full-time status within the organization.
The format also promotes some of the fastest cars from the previous week, to drive up through the field on a weekly basis, putting on a great show for our fans.
Ten cars will be eligible to qualify for a pill draw featured position when car counts for the event are at thirteen or less. When fielding fourteen to eighteen cars, twelve cars will be eligible for a pill draw. Up to fourteen cars will be eligible to redraw for their feature position when car counts are at nineteen or greater.
All non-qualified cars from heat races will start “straight-up” based on the heat race result, behind the qualified cars.
A standard pill draw based on the criteria listed above will set the line-ups for heats and features through the first three races of the ATQMRA season, as has been tradition over the previous years.
The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic ATQMRA fueled by VP Racing Fuels will open up for the 2022 season this Saturday, April 30th, at Wall Stadium Speedway- the official home track of the ATQMRA!
