Round #2 for the Myers Triple Crown Set as 3rd Thunder Road Event in 7 Days
Barre, VT — To wrap up the grueling Independence Day stretch of three events in seven days at Thunder Road International Speedbowl, the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers come up on the all-important, extra distance Round Two of the Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series. Also in action, the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models and rk Miles Street Stocks are all deep into their championship seasons while the Burnett Scrap Metal Road Warriors are back after putting on an epic finish to their Independence Day weekend event on Sunday.
Following his win in round one, Hinesburg’s Derrick Calkins leads the Myers Triple Crown standings by seven points over Milton’s Sam Caron. Currently, the top seven in points would all be a first-time Triple Crown champion, keeping with the tradition of no-repeat champs in five editions of the Myers Container Service Series. Both Calkins and Caron will have to keep their eyes open for Williston’s Justin Prescott who’s proven to be quite consistent in his sophomore efforts. Calkins will be pulling a double-duty of sorts, playing catch up in track championship points, just seven points behind the Goss Dodge #44 of Prescott, and maintaining his Triple Crown lead.
Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model point standings received yet another scramble in an up and down year for Thunder Road’s top championship division. Coming off the win on Independence Day weekend, Graniteville’s Christopher Pelkey is in a slim 12-point command of the standings over neighbor Stephen Donahue. Silently in third is Milton’s Scott Dragon. The two-time ‘King of the Road’ has been fast each and every week, grabbing a strong first-place run with five top-10s in the last six events. Keep an eye on the jet-black, CDR Concrete #0VT on Thursday.
After stumbling with mechanical issues just one week ago, Waterford’s Dean Switser Jr. posted a strong 7th-place finish to come back within four-points of Barre’s Jeffrey Martin. Martin, the 2019 Street Stock champion, will be on the hot seat come Thursday after making his way to tenth on Sunday’s flag-to-flag 25-lap sprint. 29 points away in third is Berlin’s Kyler Davis, who has also been very consistent with six top-10 finishes in seven events. Davis is eager to park his #68 machine in victory lane on Thursday.
The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors have quite the reputation to keep up after their thrilling 20-lap event made the capacity Independence Day weekend crowd roar with excitement on Sunday. While division stars Frank Putney and ‘Flyin’ Fred Fleury made gold and silver-hunting look easy, bronze-nabber Ryan Sayers grabbed his first podium finish at Thunder Road. Keep an eye out for Ryan Foster, Robert Catchapaw, and Taylor Sayers who are all looking to come back strong from cautions and wrecks on Sunday.
Thunder Road plays host to the third event in a seven-day-stretch with Round #2 for the Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series 75-lap event. Also on the docket, the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models and rk Miles Street Stocks continue their championship seasons along with the slam-bang Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors. Post Time is set for 7:00pm with adult tickets on sale for $15, kids 12 and under for $5 with the Family Four Pack available for $30.
