Caraway Speedway Begins 58th Season in March
The “Dogwood 250” Kicks Off Racing on March 12th
(Sophia, NC): Asheboro’s Caraway Speedway kicks off the 58th season of racing action on March 12th with the running of the “Dogwood 250”. The speedway used the name to honor the early Spring events once held at Martinsville Speedway in the heyday of Modified and Late Model sportsman racing.
The “Dogwood 250” will feature one hundred lap features for the SMART Modified Tour and the speedway’s regular Late Models plus a 50 lapper for the 602 Modifieds. The US Legend cars and Bandoleros will also chase the checkered flag on the 12th. Race time for the “Dogwood 250” is 2:30 PM.
Many of the SMART Modified Tour regulars will be on hand to compete for their season title. Tim Brown returns to action at Caraway in the Team 25 Racing seat vacated by Bobby Labonte’s move to Stanley-Sadler Racing. Labonte will team with another “Cup” driver, Ryan Newman, in the two-car team sponsored by Pace-O-Matic. 2022 SMART Champion, Caleb Heady, returns to the Tommy Baldwin #7ny to defend his title against 2021 SMART Champion, Burt Myers and his brother Jason. “Big Money” Matt Hirschman is expected to enter along with past Caraway winner, Gary Putnam plus Spencer Davis, Michael Ritch, and others. 2022 Caraway 602 Modified Champ, Carson Loftin teams up with his dad, Brian in the “Shady Grady Racing” modifieds, and another newcomer, Riley Neal is expected to suit up for the event.
Practice for the event is set for Saturday, March 11th.
A regular practice for the track’s regular divisions opens the month of march on Saturday, March 4th at 11:00 AM followed by a 336 Meets Spectator Drags on Saturday evening at 6:00 PM. The “Dogwood 250” is sandwiched between two 336 events and another open practice on March 18th.
The “official” 2023 season opens on March 19th with racing for the track’s regular divisions. Late Models headline the opener with racing for the Challengers, Stock 4’s, 602 Modifieds, UCAR’s, Bootleggers, Legends, and Bandoleros. That Sunday afternoon event has a 2:30 PM start time.
March wraps up with the first Saturday night race at 7:00 PM on the 25th with Randolph County Appreciation Night featuring racing for the Challengers, 602 Modifieds, Classic Mini Stocks, UCAR’s and Bootleggers.
