Roaring into March: Hagerstown, Selinsgrove, Bridgeport Kick Off STSS 10th Year

MILLSBORO, DE – The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco roars into season No. 10.

Three major events kick off the season during the month of March for both the STSS Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman as the series celebrates its milestone 10th anniversary season.

Rain, Stewart Friesen, and David Schilling made headlines in the recent STSS swing through Fla.’s All-Tech Raceway. Friesen, of Sprakers, N.Y., won for a series-leading 37th time, while East Greenbush, N.Y.’s Schilling broke through for his first, the 38th different driver to win with the STSS. Heavy precipitation unfortunately wiped out the final two nights in Florida.

Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway hosts the Modifieds for the first time in a decade on Saturday, March 11 with an open practice on Friday, March 10.

The second season for the STSS ‘Elite’ program gets underway at Hagerstown in a joint points-paying event. Both the ‘Elite’ program and Rent Equip/Party Central South Region will accrue points at the ‘Mods in the Mid-Atlantic’ special.

A massive payout awaits the Hagerstown STSS Modified contingent, with $12,000 reserved for the winner, $2,000 for 10th and $1,000 just to take the green flag for a 50-lap event.

The Belmont’s Garage South Region for Crate 602 Sportsman jumpstart the 2023 season with a $2,000-to-win 30-lap event at Hagerstown.

One week later, a new era of racing at Pa.’s Selinsgrove Speedway gets underway on Saturday, March 18. New promoter Stephanie Baker takes the helm of the half-mile oval and hosts her first-ever event in conjunction with the STSS.

The Rent Equip/Party Central Modifieds are set for Event No. 2 with $5,000 going to the winner, $1,000 for 10th-place and $500 to take the green flag after 40 laps. Belmont’s Garage Crate 602 Sportsman are also in South Region action competing for $1,500 to win in a 25-lap affair.

A Friday night, March 17 practice is offered for STSS competitors at Selinsgrove.

The resurfaced Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park roars to life on Saturday, March 25. For the first time, STSS sanctions the 60-lap ’60 Over Special’ in memory of Doug Hoffman paying $6,060 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $600 to start for the Rent Equip/Party Central South Region Modifieds (Race No. 3).

Belmont’s Garage Crate 602 Sportsman are also in action with $1,500 on the line in a 25-lap main.

STSS teams are welcome at Bridgeport on Friday, March 24 for an Open Practice session.
