Danny Ferland Passes Away at 76

Daniel E. Ferland
May 3, 1947 – June 10, 2023

Daniel E. Ferland, 76, of North Charlestown, NH passed away on June 10, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

Daniel was born in Claremont, NH to A. Leo and Elsie Poulin Ferland on May 3, 1947.

He married Brenda Lee Snelling on May 11, 1968. They were married for 55 years. They have 2 children, daughter Lisa Marie Hamilton and son, James Daniel Ferland.

Daniel “Danny” was an avid race fan. He started in his teenage years racing go-karts in Hartland and Barre, VT. That’s when he started to amass a large collection of trophies. Danny then went into racing cars at Claremont Speedway for 24 years. When Monadnock Speedway opened, he was there for 9 years. Besides owning numerous cars, he also drove for other car owners.

When his job as a crane operator, at Miller Construction, became long hours, he gave up being a racecar owner. After 41 years at Miller Construction, he retired but didn’t care for full-time retirement. He took up part-time truck driving for Norm Beaudry, and his last place of employment was with St. Pierre, Inc.

During Danny’s so-called retirement, he camped in Maine and most recently in Vermont. He loved his Bingo games at the VFW in Charlestown.

While in Maine, he and his best friend, Bobby Tuner built an open wheel modified to resemble one of Danny’s favorite cars #21 that he owned and drove. He also built another car, #194 replica of one he drove for his son, James, so they could run exhibition races and shows with a group known as STAR (Senior Tour Auto Racers), also with NEAR (New Antique Auto Racers).

Danny is survived by his wife, Brenda, daughter, Lisa, son, James, and his sister, Sister Cecelia Ferland; many nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters-in-laws, and other relatives, extended friends, and family in the racing and camping communities.

Calling hours will be at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Monday, June 19th from 4 to 6 PM with a service at 6 PM.
