XTREME DIRT MIDGET ASSOCIATION
July 14, 2023, Flat Track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Loudon, NH
Three-time defending Xtreme Dirt Midget Association champion Seth Carlson of Stafford, CT won the trophy and $3,000 top prize at the Flat Track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday night. It was Carlson’s second win in the Friday Night Dirt Duels event as he also took the inaugural race in 2019.
Mark Cole led the initial start, but the race went yellow on the first lap as Will Hull spun in turn four. On the re-start, Mike Netishen grabbed the top spot and led the field for the early laps over Manny Dias as Carlson made a move around Daniel Piastka for fourth place. A spin by James Fitzgerald brought out the second caution. When the green flag flew to re-start the main, Netishen and Dias battled for the lead. Carlson took advantage of an opening to pass the lead duo going into turn three. Dias took second from Netishen and a few laps later, Justin Phillips got by Netishen for third place. Charlie Pease rolled the #5p in turn four on lap eight bringing out another caution. Pease was not injured.
While the top three sped away at the front, Chris Murray had worked his way into the top ten while Hull came back from a first lap spin to also join the race for positions 4-10. Daniel Piastka, Mike Netishen, Brandon Piastka, Murray, Nikki Ouellette, and Hull all ran close together for several laps. Murray worked his way into fourth place and steadily ran down Phillips to take third place on lap 19 but there was no time left to catch the top two. Carlson won over Dias. The duo also finished one-two at the previous DMA race at Bear Ridge Speedway.
The Piastka split the first two heats with Daniel winning the first and Brandon the second after a good battle with fellow Ray Miller Racing teammate Justin Phillips. Manny Dias won the third heat race.
The Xtreme Dirt Midget Association’s next race will be at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT on Saturday July 22.
