Exrteme Heat & Approaching Storms Halt Riverhead Raceway Saturday

Riverhead, NY July 29th — With a heat index pushing 105 degrees Saturday, coupled with a threat of approaching storms, Riverhead Raceway management decided Saturday morning to cancel the Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series program. Despite the loss of Saturday’s show, a busy week lies ahead for the venerable 73-old facility.

While most of Saturday was clear of any inclement weather, the approaching cold front forecasters predicted arrived, vivid lightening and heavy rain in tow just before 9:00 pm, later than predicted, but still right in the middle of the program had the show not been called. Saturday afternoon GM John Ellwood disclosed the Celebrating Chris Young Twin 49’s will now shift to the regularly scheduled September 9th program, just one week ahead of the Eddie Partridge 256 WMT event set for September 16th.

Midweek Mayhem will be the first of two nights of racing Wednesday evening August 2nd starring a School Bus Demolition Derby. A robust card will of racing proceed the School Bus Demo starting with a Kids Big Wheel race, plus Street Stocks, Bock Auto INEX Bandoleros, Truck Enduro, 8-Cylinder Enduro, and a 4/6-Cylinder Gut & Go race. Spectator gates open at 6:00 pm, racing starts at 7:00 pm. Adult admission is $30, kids 6-12 $20, 5 & under free.

Three days later the Advance Auto Parts Weekly series swings back into action with seven divisions going to post. The NASCAR Tour Type Modifieds will go 50-laps and are joined by Late Models, Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, Figure Eights, Super Pro Trucks with a Truck Enduro wrapping up the program. Spectator gates open at 4:00 pm with qualifying set for 5:30 pm, followed by opening ceremonies. Adults are $30, kids 6-12 $15, 5 & under free Saturday.
