History in the Making: Ross Chastain, Jimmy Spencer to Attend Aug. 24 Georgetown Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Event

GEORGETOWN, DE – History in the making.

On Thursday, Aug. 24, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series makes its first-ever visit to Georgetown Speedway – and the State of Delaware – with the $18,049-to-win Melvin L. Joseph Memorial, rescheduled by weather from April.

The event honors Delaware business icon – and the builder of the Sussex County facility – Joseph, who passed away in 2005.

The Melvin L. Joseph Family of Companies present the anticipated program.

NASCAR Cup Series star Ross Chastain has confirmed he will compete in the inaugural event driving a Super Late Model for Niece Motorsports. The Florida native will also be available to meet fans and sign autographs pre-race.

Berwick, Pa.’s Jimmy Spencer – a winner in all three national NASCAR series and a former NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion – has been named the event’s Grand Marshal. Like Chastain, Spencer will sign autographs and meet fans.

The nation’s top Super Late Model competitors are expected to invade the First State, including Ricky Thornton Jr., Hudson O’Neal, Jonathan Davenport, Tim McCreadie, Devin Moran, Daulton Wilson, Max Blair, Tyler Erb, Earl Pearson Jr., Spencer Hughes, Garrett Albertson, Tyler Breunig and more.

Georgetown’s own Ross Robinson – in his second season with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series – is one of two Super Late Model winners at Georgetown this season, joining York, Pa., icon Rick Eckert.

Joining the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series contingent are the Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers in 12-lap, features-only programs.

All gates open at 4 p.m. Hot laps begin at 6:20 p.m., with racing at 7:15 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $35, Seniors (ages 65 and above) and students (ages 13-17) pay $30. Kids (9-12) pay $20. Children 8 and under are FREE.

All seating is general admission for this event.

Pit admission is $45 (ages 13 and up), $40 (NASCAR Members), $15 for Kids (ages 6-12), and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
