Utica-Rome New Yorker 50 Kicks Off ‘Big-Race’ Fall Season Sunday, Sept. 3

VERNON, NY – The traditional fall, big-race season annually draws anticipation for Northeast dirt Modified competitors and fans.

In 2023, Utica-Rome Speedway kicks it all off with a huge event on Labor Day weekend.

The ‘New Yorker 50’ offers competitors Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco points toward both the Ollie’s Elite Series and River Valley Builders North Region championship battles.

A purse structure of more than $50,000 has been posted for the 50-lap event, including $12,000 to win, $2,000 for 10th, and $1,000 to take the green flag.

‘New Yorker 50’ STSS Modified Pay Structure: 1. $12,000; 2. $6,000; 3. $3,500; 4. $2,800; 5. $2,500; 6. $2,300; 7. $2,200; 8. $2,100; 9. $2,050; 10. $2,000; 11. $1,600; 12. $1,400; 13. $1,200; 14. $1,100; 15. $1,050; 16-24. $1,000; Series Provisionals (-$500); Track Provisional (-$1,000).

Savannah, N.Y.’s Matt Sheppard leads both the River Valley Builders North Region and Ollie’s Elite Series championship rounds into Utica-Rome on Labor Day weekend.

The ‘Elite’ program ran just a single event – at N.Y.’s Orange County Fair Speedway in April – and Sheppard bested Larry Wight, Mat Williamson, Dillon Steuer, and Jack Lehner.

In North Region competition, Sheppard leads Williamson, Steuer, Marc Johnson, and Quebec’s Steve Bernier after eight rounds.

Grandstand admission is $30 (Adults), $28 Seniors (ages 65 and up) and Kids 11 and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $50 (Non-Members), $45 (Utica-Rome or NASCAR Members), $10 for Kids (ages 6-12), and Children 5 and under pay $2.

Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

The event will be broadcast LIVE on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv).
