Peyton Shaw Passes Away

Peyton C. Shaw

January 4, 2006 – December 12, 2023, 17 Years Old

Peyton Clare Shaw was unexpectedly called home by the Lord on December 12, 2023. Peyton is the daughter of David and Sarah Shaw of Waverly. She is a member of the Waverly Class of 2024 as well as the BOCES New Visions Academy where she was earning college-level credits toward her degree in education. Peyton was a member of the National Honor Society and was a Junior Rotarian. She was a leader on the court for the Wolverines Volleyball and Basketball teams. Peyton was an amazing daughter, sister, athlete, scholar, and a best friend. Her personality could light up a room and her desire to stand up for what was right was unprecedented. Peyton loved babies and children and spent many summer days and weekends babysitting for local families. She loved all those children and their families. On Sundays, you could find Peyton bussing tables and befriending the employees and patrons of Tomasso’s Restaurant. She aspired to attend college in the fall, and although she had been accepted to all of the universities she applied to, she had a keen interest in the campus and community at Saint Bonaventure University.

Peyton is survived by her parents, brother David F Shaw V (DJ), brother Benjamin Shaw, grandparents, Dale & Connie Allis of Wyalusing, Eileen McMahon of Waverly, Dave & Kathy Shaw of Sayre, Aunt Amy & Rich Powell of Windham, Justin Shaw of Sayre, Jordan & Jessie Shaw of Sayre, cousins, Richard and Luke Powell of Windham, Hogan and Jack Shaw of Sayre. Peyton is also survived by many extended family members, her special friend (Dale) Ty Beeman, and an endless list of good friends.

Peyton loved and was loved by so many. Her time on earth was brief but she left behind no regrets. Peyton will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is now wrapped in God’s embrace setting to do greater things as she watches over us. Until we meet again sweet girl, know the greatest gift is love and you my child were the epitome of love. Fly high and keep us safe until we meet again. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Waverly High School Auditorium. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Church of the Epiphany in Sayre at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Services Club within the Waverly School District. This is a club that provides outreach resources, such as: food, clothing, and supplies for students and members of the Waverly community. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of The Thomas Cremation and Funeral Service, 1297 Elmira St., Sayre, Pa.
