Obituary of Vincent “Vinny” F. Annarummo Jr.

Vincent F. “Vinny” Annarummo, Jr., age 74, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Joanne (Tripp) Annarummo with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

Born in Fall River, the son of the late Vincent F., Sr. and Kathleen (Tafe) Annarummo he was a lifelong resident of Swansea.

A graduate of Joseph Case High School, Class of 1969, he owned and operated V&L Auto Repair, V&L Auto Sales (both businesses named after his daughter whom he adored), and Gaskell’s Towing until his retirement in 2002. Skilled at building and repairing racecars, his greatest joy was racing them with a fiercely competitive spirit. He was the first driver to achieve six Pro Stock Division Championships at Seekonk Speedway and was a respected competitor in the True Value Modified Racing Series. He was honored nationally in both 2004 and 2005 for the many contributions he made to small track racing and was later inducted into the Seekonk Speedway Wall of Fame and then the New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

When he wasn’t behind the wheel he could be found lending a hand to anyone who needed one. He enjoyed fishing with his son and grandson; landing his first big tuna in the summer of 2023. When he was not fishing for pleasure, he could be found commercially quahogging the waters of Swansea or on one of the many cruises he and Joanne enjoyed together. He also enjoyed spending time with his daughter and her family poolside and spent countless hours each summer ensuring the pool was just right for his daughter and granddaughter. Devoted to his family, he made it a priority to attend nearly every sporting event, dance recital, or award ceremony his grandchildren participated in.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Todd Annarummo and his wife Janet of Swansea; one daughter, Lisa Grist and her husband Steven and her step-children Angelina and Jackson of Johnston; one sister, Nancy Brodeur and her husband Robert of Swansea and two grandchildren, Ty and Elsie Annarummo as well as many, many life-long friends.

Private services are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, Swansea.

Contributions in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, and/or Ronald McDonald House, 45 Gay Street, Providence, RI.
