Monaco Modifieds Prepare for Strong Thompson Debut on Icebreaker Saturday

Barre, VT and Naples, ME — Excitement continues to build for the impressive 50th celebration of the iconic Icebreaker weekend at Thompson Speedway on April 6 and 7. Saturday’s opener sets the stage for the 85th season of stock car racing on the Thompson highbanks with the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series headlining the show for their series debut at the Big-T. The Constantine Paving & Sealing Icebreaker 75 will feature some of the biggest names in open-wheel modified racing and kicks off an expanded eleventh season for the popular touring series in 2024!

Leading the Monaco Modifieds into Thompson is the defending and eight-time series champion Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pennsylvania. When asked about the schedule shake-up and Series opening at Thompson, ‘Big Money Matt’ said, “I don’t have much recent experience at Thompson so it will be a matter of reacclimating myself to the track and getting the setup correct. I felt the same way when Tri-Track went to Stafford a few years ago. We hadn’t been there in a while, but we were competitive and since then we’ve won a few races there so hopefully we can repeat that success at Thompson.” The defending Monaco Modified champ also added, “We put ourselves in a position to compete for wins each time out and let the chips fall where they may. We have won a race in each of the 10 previous seasons, so we’ll start with trying to get our first in 2024 next Saturday.”

Another early favorite is Ellington, Connecticut’s Ronnie Williams, who took a dominant stand to take the open modified Icebreaker 125 just one year ago and looks forward to visiting Sign Pro victory lane with the Monaco Modifieds once again in 2024. When asked if his weekend’s defense would add any pressure, William’s responded “With Thompson’s Icebreaker now being a Monaco Modified event, that’s the added pressure. It’s the start of an eight-race season for them and starting off on the right foot with a track that has been very good for us in the past, we expect to have a good run…but I never take it for granted. Every race is a new race. We have high expectations and hope to meet them in 2024.”

The Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series kicks off an exciting eight-race 2024 season on Saturday, April 6 at the world-famous Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park with the Constantine Paving & Sealing Icebreaker 75. Joining the Monaco Modifieds on Icebreaker lid-lifter Saturday will be the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models, Evolve Bank & Mortgage Pro Truck Series, and the start of Thompson track championship action for the all-new Sunoco 604 Modified class, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks.

Don’t forget the very next day, Sunday, April 7, comes the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to Icebreaker weekend alongside the Sunoco 604 Modifieds, Thompson Late Models, and the AZ Roofing SK Light Modifieds.
