Gabe Brown Rockets to Spring Board 100 Win on Late Race Move to the Checkers

N. Woodstock, NH — A healthy field of cars filled the White Mountain Motorsports Park pit area on Saturday afternoon for the 6th annual Spring Board 100 to start Memorial Day weekend. Fans followed suit as well with another large crowd on hand to take in some Thunder in the Mountain to start their holiday weekend. A night of competition provided some excited, and deserved, winners a chance to grab the checkers in what continues to play out as an exciting season ahead.

The 6th annual Spring Board 100 to kick off the Wall’s Ford Platinum Series saw thirty Foley Oil & Propane Late Models make the trip and battle for the top prize. Earning the high plus/minus handicap in his heat, Berlin’s Cody LeBlanc took the field to the initial green flag and led the first half of the 100-lap event. A mid-race caution with the tangled Howie Switser and Bryan Wall, Jr. machines on the frontstretch saw a pack of young American-Canadian Tour stars pounce on the longtime White Mountain campaigner.

Gabe Brown, Kaiden Fisher, and Tanner Woodard overpowered LeBlanc on the restart, the three young guns fighting hard for position throughout the final 50 circuits, and among several restarts. With the final twenty-five laps going caution-free, Brown used the bottom to his advantage in the closing circuits to claim the Spring Board 100 lead and the lead atop the Wall’s Ford Platinum Series standings with Woodard coming home second and Fisher relegated to third.

The caution-free, 35-lap feature for the Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tigers went off in a flash, wrapping up in just over eight and a half minutes! Brandon Gray made patient use of his 6th-place starting position to methodically work through the pack and claim back-to-back victories in the fan-favorite class. Staying up front throughout the feature was Belmont’s Frankie Sweeney who would finish out the night in second and for the second-consecutive week Groton, Vermont’s Luke Peters took home third.

A rolling calamity started for the Woodsville Guaranty Saving Bank Strictly Mini 25-lap feature as polesitter Jeff Champine quickly slid back on the outside, stacking up the groove for a melee coming out of turn four on lap one. A crossed-up McKenna Merchant slammed into Tyler Thompson with no room to go, collecting a late-hitting Landyn O’Donnell and Kylee Potter by the end of it all. Following the red flag clean-up, the feature went caution-free with local-boy Jack Hayes overtaking the lot to win Saturday’s feature event followed by Patrick Switser and Jason Goodbout, Jr. on the podium.

The Wayne’s Market Dwarf Cars also didn’t mess around in twin 20-lap segment competition with Andy Hill sweeping both segments to claim the win followed by a revived Jason Wyman following a rough start to the season and Dave Gyger claiming third once again this week.

The Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division impressed again this week with a dozen young racers filing into the pits Saturday afternoon. Hayden Bushey claimed back-to-back victories atop the pack followed by Connor Charbonneau and Colby Stygles on the podium.

Thunder in the Mountains resumes next Saturday, June 1 with the headlining $1,000-to-win Mini Late Model special! The annual special event for the Ammonoosuc Asphalt Mini Late Models is joined by fellow track championship action courtesy of the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models, Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tigers, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Minis and the Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division! Post Time is 6:00pm next Saturday, June 1 at White Mountain Motorsports Park!
