Phil Mitchell Passes Away

Philip E. Mitchell, 93, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Faye J. (Gantnier) Mitchell.

Born in Glastonbury, Phil was the son of the late Earl and Olive (Turner) Mitchell. A lifelong resident of, Bell Street, Glastonbury he was a farmer for many years. Phil was one of the original School Bus drivers in Glastonbury which he continued for over 30 years. He was a professional stock car driver in the 1950s and 1960s. Phil started delivering newspapers for the Hartford Courant and worked his way up to become the Circulation Manager, retiring in 1992. He later worked for ADP as a courier. Phil was an avid gardener and hunter. He was a member of the Hebron Sportsman’s Club and the Hillstown Grange.

Surviving are his two sons, John P. Mitchell of Glastonbury, James E. Mitchell and his wife Dori of IN, his daughter Juanita Dutton and her husband James of Glastonbury, his grandchildren Philip Mitchell and his wife Meg Taylor, Kristin Mitchell, Ashley Gionfrido and her husband Matthew, Drew Mitchell and his wife Courtney, Jessica Dutton, Justin Dutton and his wife Nicole Roncaioli, his great-grandchildren Garrett, Skylar, Logan and Olivia, many nieces and nephews including Dawn Mitchell of Colchester. He was grateful for the kindness shown to him by the entire Keeney family. In addition to his wife and parents, Phil was predeceased by his companion Lorraine Keeney and his brother Herbert Mitchell. He was extremely grateful for the care extended to him over the years by Dr. Hanna, Dr. Korkmaz, and Dr. Ocampo.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Rd., Glastonbury. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
