Don Comerer Passes Away

Donald Comerer, Sr.
June 1, 1953 — December 9, 2024

Donald Charles Comerer, Sr., age 71, of Mechanicsburg, died on Monday, December 9, 2024. Donald was born on Wednesday, June 1, 1953, in Chambersburg to the late Donald LaRue Comerer and Janet Louise (Jumper) Comerer.

Donald’s survivors include his son: Donald C. Comerer, Jr. and his wife, Lindsay of Lititz; and his sister: Darlene Sunday, her husband Robert of Carlisle and her family.

Words fail to adequately describe Donald Comerer Sr. He is a man of many names, depending on the capacity in which you knew him. Donald, Don, Donnie, Pops, or to his immediate family, Grumpy. He was also a man of many talents. He had a knack for taking what was broken and making it work again, sometimes in new ways. Carburetor not working right? He was the master at creating new or fine tuning the old to make it work better than it did stock.

Donnie spent many years dominating the dirt track. He was inducted into the Racecar Hall of Fame in 2019 and was a 5-time Silver Springs Speedway Track Champion, 4 year of which were consecutive.

After the birth of his only son, Donnie ventured into the world of hot rodding and never looked back. He taught his son to wrench on 1930 Model A Ford, raising him to grow up with hot rodding in his blood. In his later years, his greatest joy was to go hot rodding with his son, daughter in law and friends. Summer hot rodding will never be the same without him.
