Limited Sportsman, Crown Vic’s to enjoy more laps at Airborne Park in 2025
PLATTSBURGH, Ny. — Limited sportsman and Crown Vics will both take on larger roles at Airborne Park Speedway in 2025 in an effort to continue to grow the North Country racing community and build Airborne Park’s future.
Following a successful 2024 campaign, the first of a five-year lease placing Mike and Alayne Bruno at the controls for the first time since 2015, speedway management has made the decision to add limited sportsman to the schedule on a regular basis in 2025, placing them on the card for a full season, a major increase from the pair of limited sportsman races contested in 2024, won by Keith Pelkey and Caleb Durgan.
The Limited’s will join the already healthy Thursday night schedule of 358 modifieds, sportsman, renegades and mini stocks and should serve to offer newer open-wheel drivers with less experience more quality laps, opportunities to learn and a proving ground before moving up into the highly-competitive sportsman division, which averaged 32 cars in 2024.
Another class taking on an expanded role in 2025 is the new, entry level crown vic division. Popularized in the southeastern United States during the last several years, the crown vics were introduced to the northeast region at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in 2023, quickly producing quality racing and giving aspiring racers an entry-level option that is also rear wheel drive, hearkening back to racing’s early days and true “street stock” classes.
The crown vics made one appearance to Airborne Park in 2024, on Elegance Coating Championship Weekend, immediately generating buzz in the pit area and the stands. Seven cars made the trek to Plattsburgh for the event with Matt Monaghan winning the qualifier and Bristol, V.T.’s Eric Friend taking the feature. The crown vics will appear on Saturday nights and other special events at Airborne Park in 2025. For more information on the crown vic division, the rules are posted on the Devil’s Bowl Speedway website. They can be found by highlighting the “drivers” tab and selecting “rules.”
