First of Two Open Practice Sessions This Saturday – YankeeRacer.com

First of Two Open Practice Sessions This Saturday

Thompson, CT — It is a sure sign that the traditional racing season opener in New England is just around the corner when Thompson International Speedway schedules its open practice sessions. The first of these two open practice sessions is scheduled for this Saturday, March 22nd from 12 Noon until 6 PM. The second such session is slated for March 29th at the same times.

Thompson’s open practice sessions are designed for the benefit of any race team having a safe and legal race car. During the 2008 racing season, many different racing divisions will be in competition at the historic asphalt oval. Race car divisions ranging from the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Mini Stocks, NEMA Midgets and Pro Four Modifieds all the way up to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the ISMA Super Modifieds will race at Thompson and are therefore welcome to participate in the open practice sessions. Antique race car clubs are also encouraged to participate.

Both of these open practice days are designed to provide competitors with the opportunity to prepare their cars for the annual ICEBRAKER or for their regular season of competition. Every race team will be given ample opportunity to get on-track time so that fine tuning of each race car can be done in a relaxed atmosphere.

These practice sessions can play a major role in the success of a race team for ICEBREAKER weekend and beyond. Racers, who take advantage of these pre-season sessions, find that they have an edge on the competitors who do not get that all important pre-season track time.

Thompson’s ICEBREAKER, the traditional season opener for the New England racing season, will be held the weekend of April 5th & 6th. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will highlight the lineup of racing divisions for this annual event. The “Tour” will lead the NASCAR Whelen Sunoco Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Thompson Modifieds, Mini Stocks and NEMA Midgets.

All racing divisions will practice and qualify on Saturday, April 5th. Qualifying will be followed by the first of two feature events for Thompson’s Sunoco Modifieds and the Thompson Late Models. These divisions will run their second feature on Sunday afternoon.

Tickets, which are good for both days of this incredible first-of-the-season race event, are available at the Thompson International Speedway track office. Those wishing to avoid long ticket lines on race day may call the track office and purchase their tickets in advance. All major credit cards are accepted. Additional information about the ICEBREAKER may be found at the Thompson web site. www.thompsonspeedway.com.
