The first 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car arrives in Australia

New Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 992) to be unveiled at the OTR Supersprint

Following its international launch in December 2020, the first 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car has arrived in Australia. The stunning wide-body race car is direct from Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, Germany and will be on display to the public at the OTR Supersprint – when The Bend Motorsport Park hosts Round 2 of Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia on the 07 to 09 May.

Since the first images and details of the latest generation of the world’s top-selling racing car became public, interest in the new 992 generation has been very strong among Australia and New Zealand customers – ahead of its domestic introduction in the Carrera Cup Australia series in 2022.

The new 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will also be unveiled to potential Carrera Cup Australia customers in an exclusive reveal event on the eve of the OTR Supersprint on Thursday 06 May.

PCA Head of Motorsport, Troy Bundy: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the interest shown in the new 992 GT3 Cup car to date and we are currently assessing all of the expressions of interest we’ve received from motorsport customers across Australia and New Zealand. Given the quality and calibre of the drivers interested, the 2022 grid will be one of the strongest in the series history.”

In 2021, the 992 generation racer will be campaigned in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and several other Carrera Cup Championships around the globe, including North America for the first time.  The spectacularly styled Cup car is the first racing version based on the current 992 generation and the first one make-cup racer of the German sports car manufacturer to feature a wide turbo-spec body.

Producing around 375 kW (510 hp), it exceeds the output of its immediate predecessor by 25 horsepower. Moreover, the new GT3 Cup can run on synthetic fuels, which significantly lowers CO2 emissions under racing conditions. The lap times of the completely new Cup 911 are expected to be slashed by a good one per cent, depending on the track layout.

Australian fans can watch the 992 generation 911 GT3 Cup in action in all eight rounds of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup Championship which will again be broadcast live on FOX Sports with replays throughout the season.
