Short Track Super Series Debuts on Bridgeport Four-Tenths-Mile Tuesday, July 27
SWEDESBORO, NJ – For the first time in more than three years, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco returns to Bridgeport Motorsports Park on Tuesday, July 27.
After losing the 2020 edition of the ‘South Jersey Shootout’ to COVID-19 restrictions, the event is back better than ever in 2021.
The stars of the STSS head to the newly configured four-tenths-mile oval in South Jersey for the first time ever.
The return to Bridgeport will be Round No. 6 of the Velocita-USA South Region presented by Design for Vision and Sunglass Central. The Modifieds will go 50-laps for $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to start.
The trip for the STSS will feature the third different configuration the series has competed on since its first appearance in 2015.
The first four events took place on the original five-eighths-mile oval, with the most recent event in 2018 occurring on the inner three-eighths-mile track at Bridgeport constructed by the Ramey family.
Rick Laubach of Hellertown, Pa., got his first career STSS win in the first ‘South Jersey Shootout’ back in 2015. Lawrenceville, N.J.’s Wade Hendrickson got his only STSS win in the ‘South Jersey Shootout’ in 2016.
The Swedesboro facility hosted two events in 2017, with two STSS champions claiming victory on the five-eighths mile. Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen and Boyertown, Pa.’s Ryan Watt were the ‘17 winners at Bridgeport.
In 2018, the (then) new three-eighths mile took center stage, with Bechtelsville, Pa.’s Jeff Strunk claiming the victory, his first of now two checkered flags with the series.
The STSS begins a new chapter in Bridgeport’s 49-year history as an operating racetrack, heading the high-banked, four-tenths-mile oval for the fifth running of the ‘South Jersey Shootout.’
Joining the STSS Modifieds on the card: STSS Crate 602 Sportsman Belmont’s Garage South Region Event No. 5 (25 laps, $1,500 to win).
