Claremont: Dwight Jarvis Is Back In Victory Lane, Bucky Demers Wins Pros
NAPA NIGHT SAW 5 DIFFERENT WINNERS AT CLAREMONT SPEEDWAY
CLAREMONT NH…Night two of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series point chase at Claremont Speedway is in the record books. Peter Daniels, defending track champion, powered up from the middle of the starting field to take second place behind Dwight Jarvis in the # 28 machine. Daniels, last week’s winner with Jarvis taking second, avoided several tangles on the track in his drive to the second spot.
On lap 9 the #240 of Pearl Dewey, John Scarboro in the #61S, and the #5 of Kevin Konopka tangled on turn 4 sending all three racers to the pits for the evening. On the restart, Daniels moved from 6th to 4th and Jarvis moved up to the 3rd spot. Daniels, Jarvis, and Bruce Batchelder in the #77 raced for the lead and the top three with each of them leading at one time or another. On lap 24 Jarvis and Batchelder bumped sending Batchelder to 3rd, Daniels to 2nd, and putting Jarvis in the lead to the checkers.
In the Pro Stocks, Mike Brousseau in the #1 machine led the field to the green from the pole. Tom Patenaude in the #5 occupied the outside of row 1 with Bucky Demers #5 and Bryon Baker driving the #11 on the outside. By the end of lap one, it was clear that Demers and Brousseau were not going to give up the one two spots and that a battle was shaping up. Baker dropped back a few spots as Patenaude dropped slowly back to mid-pack. Donnie Lashua driving #67 moved into the top three till a spin on lap 18 sent him to the rear of the pack. Backer then moved back into the 3rd spot. Demers moved by Brousseau on a restart on lap 9 and kept Brousseau at bay until the checkers.
The Exide ShorTrack Late Model series race was dominated by Bob Hagar in the #91. Dominated not because of getting out in front and building a big lead but by keeping several cars including 2nd place finisher Dan Stebbins and his #5 behind him all evening. Stebbins and the #29 of Aaron Fellows, 3rd place finisher, pressed Hagar for the full length of the race but could not get by the #91 car.
Travis Cass took second place in the Accel Street Stock division even though he had to be towed to Victory Lane. In a last-lap crunch at the finish line, Cass ended up against the wall pointed in the wrong direction but in 2nd place behind the #34 car of Scott Chute. Ed LaQuire, who ended up last week against the same spot on the wall, returned with his repaired racer to take third in the event.
The Mini Stocks saw the return of Rick Lambert to the seat of the #94. Lambert in contention at the front of the pack got his hand caught up in the steering wheel in mid-race and dropped to the middle of the pack after losing control momentarily of the car. Up front Chris Gilbert in the 12 car held off the #12 of Bill Clark and last week’s winner Charlie “Wheels” Wheeler. Brian Henry in #18 and Lambert filled out the top 5.
