Claremont: One 2 Go – Race # 1 – Newport Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series

We are about to drop the green flag on our 2017 season and the Newport Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series. The R.E. Hinkley Super Streets kick off the season tomorrow night with their Daytona 500 as they will run 75 laps in the Richardson Memorial Race presented by TrackSide Motorsport and Accessories. Nearly 30 cars are anticipated to qualify for this event. “Superman” Aaron Fellows is seeking to repeat as the division’s champion after winning 4 times last season but will face many familiar names from over the years at the speedway. Grandstands open at 4:30 pm and admission is $ 10 for ages 6 and up. The Casella Modifieds, Pepsi Limited Sportsman, and T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats round out the card.

Storylines for the Richardson 75 and R.E. Hinkley Super Streets

  • Will Superman Meet His Kryptonite– Aaron Fellows recorded his 11th championship last season by besting Ricky Bly by 48 points. Will Fellows collect number 12 this year? That is yet to be seen but he has looked very strong during both test and tune sessions.
  • The Return of Radical and Hi Ho – Russ Davis returns after taking a season off from racing while Lenny Silver is back after a decade. Silver was able to get one practice run in last week before mechanical issues. Davis was at both practice sessions.
  • May the Downforce Be With You – The Downforce body will make its appearance on at least seven entries this season. They look sharp.
  • Rookie Hazing – The adjustment from 4-cylinders to the 8 is a big step. Ask Hayden Scott. Alex Poisson and Craig Smith make the move from the Wildcats to the Supers and are thrown right into the fire with their first race being 75 laps. Poisson did run a Super race last year however but had nowhere near the car he does now.

The next event is the NorthEast Mini Stock tour on May 5. They will be running 50 green flag laps for $ 500 to win. The race at Claremont last year yielded the best car count of the season for the NEMST and some exciting racing. They will be joined by the R.E. Hinkley Supers, Pepsi Limited Sportsman, and T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats.
