Claremont: One 2 Go – Race # 9 – Daddy’s Pizza Twin 30’s For Casella Modifieds
Open-wheeled awesomeness headlines the night’s race card with the Daddy’s Pizza Twin 30’s for our Casella Modifieds. Additional monies have been added to the race purse as well as race bonuses for the top 3 for each race. As this is a point race, the starting lineup for the first race will be set by heat races with the field inverted (lead lap cars in the front) in the 2nd race based on their finish from the first. The lowest average finish of both events will be the overall winner with the tiebreaker being the finish in the 2nd race. Last year, Dana Smith was the overall winner with Nick Boivin finishing 2nd and Scott MacMichael placing 3rd.
Dana Smith leads the ground-pounders in points after 4 events with Prospect, CT’s Nick Salva sitting 29 points behind with the “Cornish Comet” Bucky Demers and Chris Bolton down 52 and 53 points respectively. Last time out, Brian Robie picked up his first feature win in a Tour-Type Modified on July 21.
The R.E. Hinkley Super Streets continue to produce strong car counts and last Friday was no different but the winner was for the 7th time this season. 21 cars took the green and when the dust settled, the “Other” Craig Smith in the # 97 grabbed his first career Super Street feature win. “Radical” Ricky Bly, starting shotgun on the field, finished 2nd and took over the points lead while Dylan Bodreau raced his way to 3rd.
After taking a year off from behind the wheel, Travis Cass became the 6th different winner in the Pepsi Limited Sportsman as he passed Chris Gilbert with 3 to go to grab his first win since 2015. Gilbert finished 2nd while the “Polish Prince” Tyler Janovsky came home 3rd. Janovsky leads “Hot Stuff” Kenny Thompson in the points battle by 12 points.
Claremont’s Zach Lyn had the field covered in the T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats to record his 2nd feature win. Samantha Stoddard enjoyed her best run in her two seasons with a runner-up finish while Dale “Slingshot” Squires Jr. finished 3rd. Lyn and Squires are separated in the points by 25.

Story Lines for the Week
- Is Eight Enough? – While most of today’s competitors likely won’t remember the television show from the late 70’s and early 80’s, will the R.E. Hinkley Super Streets see an 8th different feature winner this week on the season? Ben Poland, Bryan Town, Dylan Bodreau, Lenny Silver, and Ryan Currier all have top 5’s and still seek the checkers.
- “Mod” Men – 3 Modified drivers who have raced with us this season qualified for last Saturday’s SBM 125 at Star Speedway. Brian Robie finished 8th, Jeff Gallup was 12th, and Dwight Jarvis was 17th.
- Using Caution – The NCWRS divisions had only 4 cautions during the entire evening. Racing was completed by 9:20 PM. Will that trend continue? Likely not now that I mentioned it.
Next week is two-fold as the stars and cars of yesteryear are in town and a special event for one of our divisions is on tap. The Senior Tour Auto Racers will be on display after being rained out on June 30. A number of competitors raced previously at Claremont – Bobby Turner, Danny Ferland, and Bob Donahue to name a few. The Pepsi Limited Sportsman special event is next Friday as well with details to be released in the next day or two. The Super Streets and Wildcats will be in action as well.
