Persistent Mist forces ‘12k for the 12’ Postponed to November 11

GEORGETOWN, DE – Another day, another rainout.

Despite a clear forecast, a persistent mist hovered over Georgetown Speedway on and off throughout the day on Friday, forcing the postponement of the Gary Simpson Memorial ‘$12K for the 12K.’

A new date, Saturday, November 11, is in place for the highest-paying Modified event of the calendar year in the state of Delaware.

Despite the postponement of tonight’s event, racing is ON for Saturday for the 51st annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race.

The Stockley Tavern Speed & Supply Super Late Models and the Millman’s NAPA Modifieds to co-headline the Saturday night affair.  Both divisions race for a $5,000 top prize for their efforts after 30-lap features.

The First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models and Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman will also be on the card.

Crate 602 Sportsman earn a $1,500 winner’s share and the First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models battle for a $1,000 payday.

The Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers are all on the program for 12-lap, feature-only races.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with grandstand gates unlocked at 3 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 5:30 p.m. and racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $25. Seniors (ages 65 and up) and Students (ages 13-17) pay $20. Kids (ages 9-12) pay $10 and Children 8 and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $40 (Non-Members), $35 (NASCAR Members), $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
