Huge Georgetown Weekend: Camp Barnes Benefit Sat., ‘12k for the 12k’ Friday
GEORGETOWN, DE – Camp Barnes and $12K.
Georgetown Speedway is prepared to host a lucrative weekend of auto racing this Friday-Saturday, Sept. 29-30.
The historic Sussex County oval hosts the Gary Simpson Memorial ‘$12K for the 12K’ race on Friday (Sept. 29) night, followed by the annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race on Saturday (Sept. 30).
After the original ‘$12K for the 12K’ date was rained out back in July, the event was moved to the Sept. 29 date, marking the largest payout for the Modifieds on the 2023 schedule in the state of Delaware.
The Millman’s NAPA Modifieds go for 32-laps around the progressively banked oval for the $12,000 top prize, honoring the late Gary Simpson.
Drivers such as Seaford, Del.’s Ricky Elliott, Phoenix, N.Y.’s Larry Wight, Walden, N.Y.’s Anthony Perrego, Potsdam, N.Y.’s Michael Maresca, and Covington Township, Pa.’s Alex Yankowski all piloted Simpson’s No. 12K ride.
Simpson supported Delaware racing as a driver, car owner, sponsor and often donated his time and equipment.
The Rapid Tire Services USAC East Coast Sprint Cars are also on the racing card for their one and only Georgetown Speedway appearance of 2023.
The Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman race for 20-laps and $1,212 top prize in honor of Simpson who also fielded Crate 602 Sportsman cars in his time as a car owner.
The Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers round out the Friday night program with 12-lap, feature-only programs.
The next night, the 51st annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race takes place.
The Stockley Tavern Speed & Supply Super Late Models join the Millman’s NAPA Modifieds to co-headline the Saturday night affair. Both divisions receive $5,000 for their efforts after 30-lap features.
The First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models and Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman will also be on the card of the second day of racing of the weekend. Crate 602 Sportsman earn a $1,500 top prize and the First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models take home $1,000.
The Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and Delmarva Chargers are all on the program for 12-lap, feature-only races.
