Local Short-Track Stars, Officials Make Final Preparations for 2025 Thunder Road Season
Barre, VT – Following last week’s pre-season tire buy at Barre’s Thunder Road, Officials got a good look at what’s to come this summer at the Nation’s Site of Excitement. Over fifty different drivers attended Monday’s tire buy, making final preparations to their mounts after a long winter’s rest with a dry spring making for a great start on the groundwork for Officials at the track!
Rookies and veterans alike made the Monday afternoon trip to measure and chose the tires that most closely match their notebook from last year. Maplefields/Irving Late Model freshman Trevor Jaques and Kyle Streeter, Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger first-timers Cam Powers and Brodie Frazier and rk Miles Street Stock rookies Jason Kirby, TJ Haggett, Jaiden Del Toro, Tyler Wheatley and Keegan Tabor were among those leaning on veterans like Tommy ‘Thunder’ Smith, Shawn Fleury, Brian Hoar and Mike Billado, among others, for whatever nuggets of wisdom they could pick up.
While teams make the final touches on their faithful machines, so too do Thunder Road officials as they make the final preparations for opening day. Spring clean-up has been accelerated by a dryer-than-expected snow melt with fresh paint, banners and greenery installed in near record time.
“It’s always good to see everyone back at the track after a long winter, even if we don’t have cars going ‘round and ‘round just yet,” said Thunder Road general manager Cale King. “We’re close to finishing up here on Quarry Hill, just a couple more banners going up and some freshening up on the infield flower beds. We’re all looking forward to Community Bank opening weekend!”
The 66th season of world-famous racing at Barre’s Thunder Road kicks off with the annual Car Show and Practice Day on Saturday, May 3. The free-to-the-public Car Show begins at 9:00am and ends at 12:00-noon with open practice running from 1:00pm to 6:00pm.
The following day, Sunday May 4, brings the 27th annual Community Bank, n.a. 150 for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour and the start of track championship racing for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and the non-point Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors! Grandstands open at 10:00am with Class Day Ceremonies at 12:55pm and Post Time set for 1:30pm on Sunday, May 4.
