Talman, Gray, Anglace, Winter, & Plemons Score Aug. 15 Lincoln Tech 80 Weekly Racing Feature Wins at Stafford
(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway hosted the Lincoln Tech Open 80 on Friday, Aug. 15th with each of Stafford’s five weekly divisions in action along with the open modified cars. Troy Talman held off a fierce challenge from Keith Rocco to score his first SK Modified® win of the season, Adam Gray was a first time 2025 winner in the Late Model feature, Nick Anglace notched his second win of the season in the SK Light feature, Matt Winter was a first time 2025 winner in the Limited Late Model feature, and Aaron Plemons took down his fifth win of the season in the Street Stock feature.
In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature, Michael Gervais, Jr. spun coming to the green flag to bring the caution flag out before the race started. The next start saw Anthony Flannery and David Arute going wheel to wheel for the lead with Flannery taking the lead. Gervais took second from Arute on lap-2 and nearly took the lead from Gervais. Todd Owen worked his way into second with Troy Talman and Flannery going side by side for third with Keith Rocco fifth and Arute back to sixth.
Owen took the lead on lap-4 and lap-6 saw Talman alongside Gervais in the fight for second. Gervais went back into the lead on lap-6 with Talman taking second. Owen was hung in the outside lane and Rocco took third on lap-7 to drop Owen back to fourth. Arute and Flannery were now side by side for fifth as Talman took the lead from Gervais on lap-9.
Rocco took second from Gervais on lap-11 and Arute won the duel with Flannery in the battle for fifth place. The order with 12 laps complete was Talman, Rocco, Gervais, Owen, and Arute with Flannery in sixth place. At the halfway point it was still Talman in command followed by Rocco, Gervais, Owen, Arute, Jon Puleo, Flannery, Marcello Rufrano, Michael Christopher, Jr., and Mikey Flynn. Rocco was applying heavy pressure to Talman for the lead but Talman was able to keep himself in front. The caution flag flew with 28 laps complete for a spin in turn 2 by Wesley Prucker.
Talman got a great restart to maintain the lead back under green. Rocco took second behind Talman with Gervais and Owen wheel to wheel for third. Just behind them, Puleo and Rufrano were side by side for fifth place with Christopher and Flynn behind Puleo and Rufrano. Puleo took third from Gervais on lap-32 with Christopher taking fourth from Gervais on lap-33.
With 5 laps to go, Rocco was again right on the back bumper of Talman, looking for a way to take over the race lead. Rocco chased Talman to the checkered flag as Talman scored his first win of the season. Puleo finished third with Christopher and Flynn rounding out the top-5.
In the 30-lap Late Model feature, Tom Fearn took the lead from polesitter Tom Butler on the opening lap to set the early pace. Adam Gray quickly took second and then he took the lead from Fearn on lap-3. Butler was third in line with Kevin Gambacorta fourth and Alexandra Fearn fifth. Andrew Durand was sixth with Darrell Keane taking seventh from Chris Buffone on lap-6. Wayne Coury, Jr. followed Keane by Buffone to move into eighth and drop Buffone back to ninth place. Buffone spun in turn 2 to bring the caution flag out with 9 laps complete.
Gray took the lead on the restart with Tom Fearn holding off a challenge from Butler to maintain second place. Alexandra Fearn took third from Butler on lap-11 with Keane in fifth. Alexandra Fearn took second from Tom Fearn on lap-14 and that move opened the door for Butler to take third as Tom Fearn fell back to fourth. Paul Varricchio, Jr. was now up to fifth behind Tom Fearn with Buffone, Gambacorta, Chris Meyer, Coury, and Ryan Fearn making up the top-10.
Varricchio took fourth from Tom Fearn on lap-18 as Gray continued to lead with Alexandra Fearn second and Butler third. Tom Fearn spun in turn 2 to bring the caution flag out with 18 laps complete. Gambacorta was sent to the rear of the field for making contact with Tom Fearn.
Gray took the lead on the restart with Butler taking second from Alexandra Fearn. Meyer followed Butler by Alexandra Fearn to take third with Ryan Fearn and in fifth. Coury took fifth from Ryan Fearn on lap-21 with Gray continuing to lead the race with Butler and Meyer behind him.
With 5 laps to go, Butler was glued to the back bumper of Gray with Meyer closing in on the lead duo. Coury took fourth from Alexandra Fearn on lap-26 and Varricchio followed him by to take fifth and drop Fearn back to sixth. Butler couldn’t make a move on Gray for the lead as Gray nailed down his first win of the season. Butler finished second with Meyer, Varricchio, and Coury rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap SK Light feature, the race went green with Sami Anderson going 3-wide with Daltin McCarthy and Robert Bloxsom, III for the lead right at the drop of the green flag. Bloxsom emerged in the lead with Anderson second. Ron Midford, Jr. took third with Stephen Kalogiannis fourth and Peter Bennett fifth as McCarthy fell back to 11th place. The caution came out with 4 laps complete as Nickolas Hovey was going to the outside of Midford and the two cars touched which sent both cars into the wall and nearly collected several other cars.
Bloxsom took the lead again back under green after holding off a challenge from Anderson, who slotted into second. Kalogiannis took second from Anderson on lap-6 and lap-8 saw Amanda West and Anderson go 3-wide with Peter Bennett for third with West taking third. Anderson fell back into a side by side duel with Chris Matthews for fourth. Matthews took fourth on lap-9 with Nick Anglace taking fifth and Bennett sixth to drop Anderson back to seventh.
Anglace took fourth on lap-13 and he made a power move going into turn 3 on lap-14 to take third. He continued his charge to the front by taking second on lap-14 and then the lead on lap-15. With Anglace now out front, Bloxsom was second followed by Kalogiannis, Matthews, West, and Bennett. Anglace looked like he was about to take the checkered flag but the caution came out for a spin coming out of turn 4 by Austin Goff.
Anglace took the lead on the green white checkered restart with Bloxsom right behind him in second. Bloxsom couldn’t get close enough to Anglace on the final lap as Anglace took down his second win of the season. Matthews finished third with Kalogiannis and Bennett rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, Connor Jencik led the field to the green flag and he led the first lap before being overtaken by Matt Winter, II on lap-2. Jencik settled into second with Rich Hammann taking third, Kyle Theriault fourth, and RJ Surdell fifth. Winter was starting to pull away from Connor Jencik in second and Jencik would lose that position to Hammann on lap-7. Theriault was now on the back bumper of Jencik looking to take third while Winter was still stretching out his advantage over Hammann.
With 5 laps to go Winter still had a comfortable lead over Hammann with Theriault, Surdell, Travis Hydar, and Jason Lafayette lined up behind Hammann. Hammann was able to close the gap to Winter but couldn’t get close enough to make a bid for the lead as Winter scored his first win of the season. Hammann finished second with Theriault, Surdell, and Hydar rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap Street Stock feature, Jeff Asselin and David Ciastko led the field to the green flag and it was Asselin taking the early lead. Ciastko settled into second with Alex Spinnato in third. The caution flew as the field completed the first lap as Garrett Pease spun coming out of turn 4 with his car doing a full 360 degree barrel roll before landing on his wheels. After a quick check of his car by Stafford officials on pit road, Pease returned to the race and restarted at the rear of the field.
Asselin took the lead back under green with Bert Ouellette moving into second. Ciastko was third with Marvin Minkler fourth and Sean Petlock fifth. The caution came back out with 3 laps complete for a spin in turn 4 by Spinnato.
Asselin took the lead on the restart but he would only lead one lap as Ouellette went into the lead on lap-5. Asselin was able to slot into second behind Ouellette with Ciastko, Brent Gleason, and Minkler making up the top-5. The caution came back out with 5 laps complete for a spin by Spinnato in turn 1 that also collected the car of Andras Bogi.
Ouellette took the lead on the next restart with Asselin in second. Gleason moved up to third with Shawn Monahan taking fourth and Mike Caprio fifth. Just behind Caprio was Aaron Plemons and he was followed by Bill Cote, Travis Downey, Ciastko, and Brandon Warren. Asselin began to slide backwards and at the halfway point of the race it was still Ouellette in command with Gleason, Caprio, Plemons, and Monahan lined up behind him. The caution flag came back out with 13 laps complete for a multi-car incident on the frontstretch that involved the cars of Asselin, Tyler Trott, Minkler, Caprio, and Sean Riley.
Ouellette took the lead back under green but Plemons was on the charge and he took the lead from Ouellette with 2 laps to go. Jason Raymond was up to third with Downey in fourth and Kolton Gambacorta fifth. Plemons led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his fifth win of the season. Ouellette finished second with Raymond, Gambacorta, and Gleason rounding out the top-5.
