CARQUEST Champions for Charities Driver Spotlight: Mike Stefanik
Stafford Springs, CT — The CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Champions for Charities Event at Stafford Motor Speedway scheduled for June 28th is building in momentum and excitement as the drivers gear up to raise funds for their respective charities. The impressive field of open wheeled division champion drivers represents over 50 championships among 14 drivers. This week’s driver spotlight falls on Mike Stefanik, 7-time Whelen Modified Tour Champion, who will be racing to help support Connecticut chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The National MS Society is comprised of passionate individuals who want to free the world of multiple sclerosis. The Society’s mission is to mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS.
“Right now, we’re working on putting together our fund raising effort,” said Stefanik. “We got a late start on the fundraising, but we have some irons in the fire right now and I’m hoping to have a successful campaign and raise some money for a great cause with the MS Society.”
Stefanik practically has his own wing in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour record book. He holds the series records for most career wins with 70, most career top-5’s with 213, most career top-10’s with 278, most pole positions with 46, and the most championships with 7. Stefanik is also a 2-time K & N Pro Series East champion, and he has 12 career victories in that division, which was formerly known as the Busch North Series. But with all of Stefanik’s accolades and accomplishments, the CARQUEST Champions For Charities Event will be a new experience for Stefanik, as he has never before sat in a Senior Outlaw Wild Thing Kart.
“The last time I drove a go kart was a long, long time ago at Sugar Hill,” said Stefanik. “I’m sure this will be a new experience for most of the guys, but I’m sure it is going to be a dicey and competitive race. If you put racing drivers in anything, whether it’s a modified, a go kart, or a shopping kart, they’re going to find a way to make it a competitive race. But at the end of the day, this race is all about raising money for charity and that’s the most important thing.”
The starting lineups for the CARQUEST Champions For Charities qualifying races will be determined by how much money each driver raises for their selected charity. The starting grid will be set with the drivers who have raised the most money starting up front. Fans are encouraged to get involved in the event by donating to their favorite driver or favorite charity. CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday will take place on June 28, 2011 and will also feature the ISMA Super Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, and Pro-4 Modifieds. Tickets for CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday are on sale now at the Speedway Box Office and are priced at $30.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seating is priced at $32.00 for all ages. As always, Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking with overnight parking available.
