Streaking Cabral Leads NEMA To Twin State

Brockton, MA – Randy Cabral is spending more and more time in rarified Northeastern Midget Association company. A win at Twin State Speedway on Saturday night, June 11 will be his fourth in a row at the tricky Claremont, NH third-mile.
In NEMA’s 60-year history, only four drivers have been able to knock off four in a row at a specific venue. It hasn’t happened since Drew Fornoro won five straight at Monadnock in 1982 and ’83.
Numbers don’t concern Cabral. “[Car owner] Tim Bertrand and I have decided to just have fun this year,” he insists. “There are no set goals, nothing set in stone. We want to go racing and have some fun. That’s why I’m running the NEMA Lites too.”
NEMA has been idle since early April. The Lites will be making their fourth start of the season.
“Twin State is so different, so demanding,” continues Bertrand. “It is hard to describe. “Getting the right set up is hard and even with it, it’s tough.”
The Stoehr brothers, defending champ Russ and Greg, Jim Miller, Jeremy Frankowski, Chris Leonard, John Zych Jr., Mike Horn and Keith Botelho are among those hoping to stop Cabral’s streak. Russ Stoehr won NEMA’s only other race this year back in April at Waterford.
”It will be interesting,” Cabral says. “I’ve had pretty good starting spots at Twin State. That will not be the same this time.” Handicapping is based on the last five starts. Cabral, second at Waterford back in April, figures to start “somewhere toward the back.” Expect Russ Stoehr back there as well.
A winner twice this season, Anthony Nocella leads the Lites to Twin State. Nocella, who had a win and a second at Twin State back in ’09, will be joined by a talented group including Cabral, Anthony Marvuglio, Jim Santa Maria and Carl Medeiros Jr. and Waterford winner Ryan Bigelow.

Cabral, who won at Twin State twice in ’09 and once last year, has won three straight at Waterford in 2008 and Seekonk in ’09. Adam Cantor and Chris Abold respectively broke the streaks.
