Late Model Champion – Gary Pelletier Injured

Stafford Springs, CT — Defending Stafford Motor Speedway Late Model champion, Gary Pelletier suffered significant injuries during a turn-one crash in the 30-lap Late Model feature on June 26th. Pelletier incurred a broken right scapula in addition to a bruised sternum, knee and wrist.

“We’re done for the season,” said Pelletier from his home in Hartford, Connecicut on Monday, June 29th. “Besides my shoulder, the car and engine are a total loss.”

According to Pelletier, the throttle stuck on the Alden Pelletier Chevrolet entering turn one. The result – a near head-on impact with the cement wall in which the car momentarily become airborne.

“The throttle hung-up and I just closed my eyes,” explained Pelletier. “The next thing I knew the car was stopped in turn two and I was awfully sore. I knew instantly my shoulder broke.”

Gary climbed from the heavily damaged car under his own power and was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs Connecticut. He was released Sunday afternoon. It’s expected to take at least eight weeks for Gary’s right scapula to fully heal.

All NASCAR mandated safety structures withstood the impact, a fact that the 6-time Stafford Motor Speedway winner is thankful for.

“I’m lucky my injuries weren’t more severe” remarked Pelletier. “Anytime you crash in turn one it’s a dangerous situation.”
