QUALIFYING: Seuss Edges Miller For Pole

Takes fifth career pole in Whelen Southern Modified Tour

Asheboro, NC — Andy Seuss nipped L.W. Miller by the smallest of margins in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour qualifying at Caraway Speedway on Friday to win his first Coors Light Pole Award of the year, the fifth of his career.

Seuss, who was next to last in the qualifying order, turned a lap of 15.928 seconds (102.838 mph) to edge Miller’s lap of 15.929 seconds (102.831 mph).

Seuss of Hampstead, N.H., was quickest in practice at the .455-mile track earlier in the day in his No. 11 Phoenix Pre-Owned/Triad Auto Sales Dodge. He has made 22 starts at Caraway, with four wins. He was the winner and polesitter in this event a year ago, one of two Caraway races last year in which he led wire-to-wire for the win. He is fifth in the championship standings.

Burt Myers was third quickest in qualifying, behind Seuss and Miller; followed by Frank Fleming and Jason Myers. Tim Brown, Austin Pack, George Brunnhoelzl III, Renee Dupuis and Brandon Ward completed the top 10 in qualifying.

This is the eighth event on a 14-race schedule for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and the fourth of six visits this season to Caraway Speedway. It comes about 48 hours after the drivers and teams competed in a combination event with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Wednesday.

The green flag for the Caraway 150 set to wave at 8 p.m.
