Legion Speedway On Track To Open In Spring
Wally and Janine Brown Sign As Promoter/Operators
Wentworth, NH — Former Sprint Cars of New England Champion Si Allen of West Windsor, VT has executed a purchase and sales agreement for Legion Speedway with its current owners, Lamont Kennison American Legion Post 76. A final closing ceremony is expected in early spring, in time for a full season of Stock Car and Open Cockpit racing.
“I was happy to be able to come to terms with the Post, which has a 50 year record of keeping the track open for racers and fans alike.” Allen said. “Owning a track with this much history is truly an honor.”
Wally and Janine Brown have agreed to run the track for Allen when it opens in the Spring. “Wally is a third generation racer who’s competed on both asphalt and dirt and both Wally and Janine are successful business people, so I’m sure they’ll hit the ground running,” Allen concluded.
The proprietors of Brownie’s Automotive in Enfield, the Browns also previously served as promoter/operators of the Canaan Dirt Speedway.
“Janine and I are grateful for the confidence that Si Allen placed in us and we don’t intend to disappoint him, the racers or the race fans,” Wally Brown said. “We’re going to run the track with three equally important guiding principles: keeping the show safe for the competitors and the fans, putting on an exciting, fast paced show that has the fans heading home at a reasonable hour and treating the drivers, car owners and crews fairly so that Legion Speedway is a place where they’ll want to race.”
A number of upgrades are already taking place at the track. Allen intends to have an additional six inches of clay on the surface prior to the first event in the spring. The dog leg has been removed to make the track a more traditional oval, the starter’s stand has been relocate to its original position, the pit entrance and exit have been reconfigured and new restrooms are being built.
The track will run a weekly Sunday twilight program, with hot laps at 4:30 pm and the first green flag at 5:00. The three division show will be headlined by Sportsman Modifieds, along with a midlevel class and a four cylinder class. The details on the latter two classes will be announced after Brown has had the opportunity to listen to the input of interested parties. The Sprint Cars of New England and the Mini Sprints are expected to make periodic visits.
Updated information will be posted to the track’s website at LegionSpeedway.com.
