Orleans Wins ALNRS Adirondack North South Shootout
Newburgh, NY — The Allison Legacy North Race Series held their first ever North – South Shootout this past weekend at the Adirondack International Speedway in Lowville, NY.
The weekend began Friday afternoon when the teams arrived for two hours of practice. Unfortunately for two teams their weekend would end early as the 99 of Tommy Barrett and the 89 of Cody Gnieting would have and untimely meeting at the exit of turn four ending both of their shot at the weekends grand prize. Also during practice two time ALNRS Champion Anthony Frissora, who was making his return to the series on a part time basis in the #88 G&S sponsored Ford Thunderbird, spun coming out of turn four which left nowhere for the 27 of William Schneider to go. Both cars were heavily damaged however do to the hard work from their crews they would both be able to make the show.
The field was set by qualifying and Moorseville, NC native Ryan “The Rocket” Glenski laid down a fast lap of 18.82 seconds, blistering the 1/2 mile track at just under 93 miles an hour. On the outside would be NY native Paul Tuthill of Washingtonville, NY who was less than two tenths of a second off of the pole lap.
Due to the weather on Saturday the teams were limited to just one quick round of hot laps to make their final adjustment prior to their feature which was scheduled to go off right after the CWES event.
At the drop of the green Glenski jumped out front and appeared as though he would be the class of the field however the 25 of former ACT competitor Victor Johnson began to show what a veteran driver could do. Lap 3 would see the first caution for the spinning William Schneider in his Islandwide Auto Collison Chevy.
It would be wide open green flag racing up to lap 21 when the 27 would bring out the caution once again as he battled with the tough circle track. On the restart it would be the 28 of Glenski followed by the 25 and the 93 of former ALNRS driver Tayla Orleans who had worked her way into the top 5 by lap seven. It would be a quick four laps until the third caution would wave for a spin by the #3 of Kyle Poodiack who had checked up for a spinning 28 and was tapped in the rear sending his Webber Foundations,HRE Racing Parts, Boutwell’s Automotive Chevy around. Lap 29 was see the hardest hit of the night as the 19 of David Schneider would test the softness of the speedways styrofoam wall as he exited turn four. Fortunately for David they were there however it would put an end to his night.
With only ten laps to go there was a fierce battle up front between the 28 the 25 and the 93 as they went three wide for the first three laps after the restart. Unfortunately something had to give and the 25 made contact with the 28 sending them both spinning as they exited turn four. Both cars would be sent to the rear of field for the restart. For Glenski the night would be over as a cut valve stem put him in the pits for the final eight laps.
On the restart it was the 93 of Orleans, the 34 of Radolph, VT driver Dylan Smith and the 25 of Johnson. Johnson would later be penalized three position for not falling back into the correct running order on the restart. Orleans would lead the final eight circuits as she captured the first ever North/South Shootout win. Second place went to the 34 of Dylan Smith followed by returning two time champion Anthony Frissora of Shrewsbury MA.
Rounding out the top five was the #79 of Shane D’Agostino in fourth followed by his teammate Victor Johnson.
The ALNRS will return to action on Aug 2, 2008 as they return to the fastest high banked quarter mile in the east at Monadnock Speedway.
