Nick Ladyga and Adam Swift add their names to the list of SYRA winners in 2008 while Cestodio makes it 3 in the Pure Stocks

Seekonk, MA — Adam Swift of Fairhaven MA picked up his first Seekonk Youth Racing Association win of 2008 in the 25 lap 600 feature. Adam started on the pole, and jumped out into an early lead in the 25 lap feature. Kaitlyn Donovan settled into second in the early going, trying to keep pace with Swift, but the Roland’s Tire machine was on a mission, opening up a 6 car length advantage over the first several laps. The first caution came out on lap 7, when Branden Dion, who was running third, got caught up on the berm, and spun his Triple G Scaffolding mount in turn four, causing undercarriage damage, forcing him out of the event.

Once back up to speed, again Adam Swift started to pull away from the field. Carl Medeiros Jr settled into second while the battle heated up for third. Somerset’s Dave Hutchins started scratch in the field, and was working his way through the field. By the halfway point, he was battling with Bob Perry of Holbrook in the race for third with Jake Spillers of Ashburnham right behind. Waterford CT’s Kaitlyn Donovan, who was running second earlier in the race started to struggle, causing her to lose several positions.

Over the last several laps, Swift put his racer into overdrive, and started to pull away from the field, cruising to his first win of 2008. Medeiros finished second, while Hutchins, Perry and Spillers rounded out the top five.

In 750 action, a new face in Victory Lane emerged when Voluntown CT’s Nick Ladyga picked up his first career victory in Seekonk Youth Racing Association action. Chris Igo settled into the early lead in his idad.com mount with Estrella and Ladyga second and third. Estrella tried to find a way by Igo, looking to the outside lane a few times. While he tried the second groove, Ladyga slid into the bottom and squeaked by into second. While they battled for the top three, just behind them was another cluster of three, with Casey Sanchez, Derryk Anderson Jr and Kyle Kuchta. Niantic CT’s Kuchta was using the inside lane to his advantage, pacing by Anderson, who was trying the third groove around Sanchez.

For several laps, the Suchocki & Son’s Construction machine of Ladyga tried the inside lane to get by the Igo to no avail. With only one alternative, Ladyga took a look to the outside of the Cerelli Foods #8. Little by little, Ladyga closed in the distance, and as he looked for the lead across the stripe, Casey Sanchez stuck the nose of his Allegre Motorsports racer to the inside, making it three wide for the lead. Igo got a little crossed up and had to back off the throttle, causing him to lose several positions. This allowed Sanchez to run second, with a three wide battle ensued for third between Estrella, Kuchta and Anderson. Estrella came out on the short end, as he lost the position, and as he slid back, it was into a four wide battle for position. He and Matthew Burke got together, and both cars spun, bringing out the first caution of the event at lap 10. At this point, the top five were Ladyga, Sanchez, Kuchta, Brian Mondeau and Derryk Anderson.

A false start later, Ladyga jumped back out into the lead, while the action happened behind him. Kyle Kuchta used the restart to his advantage, as he was able to put his Mystic Pizza 0 into the second position. Brian Mondeau started scratch on the field, but kept his nose clean, and worked himself into fourth after another lap. Dylan Estrella, who was involved in the lap ten spin, was moving his way through the field, and by lap 20, he had moved back into the top four. Over the last five laps, Estrella worked by Sanchez for third on the outside, with Anderson following through for fourth.

One final charge for second, Estrella tried the outside of Kuchta, but it would be to no avail, as the Niantic native was able to hold on to second by .173 second. As they fought for second, 11 year old Nick Ladyga was crossing the finish line for his first career win in the Seekonk Youth Racing Association 750 class. Following Estrella in fourth was Anderson, with Sanchez hanging on for fifth.

Picking up the Ultra Flex Racing Products $50.00 savings bond is Branden Dion for his Hard Luck. After running third, he received undercarriage damage, and was forced out of the event.

Twenty one cars filled the pit area, making the largest Friday night Pure Stock main event. Bobby Greggerson sat on the pole with Jim Valentine set up on the outside of the front row. Greggerson jumped out into the early lead as the field spread out three and four wide, trying to get to the front. Before a lap was completed, Amy Arsenault and Dirk Eykelhoff got together, with both cars spinning in turn 2. No caution was thrown, as they both returned to action. Greggerson tried to pull away, but heavy pressure from Mike Mellow of Swansea would not allow that. Mellow, using the outside lane, picked up the lead after only a few, and tried to set sail. By lap five, Carlos Silvia was up to third, with Rick Hayward and John Robidoux rounding out the top five. Watching the race from deep in the field, several cars were working their way forward, including eventual winner Scott Cestodio, points leader Bill Chouinard, heat winner Randy Moretti, Bob Hinckley and Nick Uhrig. Using the inside and outside lanes, it was a variable maze for the faster cars.

While they were moving forward, Mike Mellow was trying to find a way by the leader, and on lap 7, he found the inside lane to his liking, and picked up the lead. Cestodio was using the outside lane, and by lap ten, he sat in second. Moretti, who started 17th, was moving through the pack, and sat in the top five by lap twelve. Bob Hinckley moved into the top five at lap 14. They continued to run three and four wide for position throughout the field. Using an inside move, Cestodio picked up the lead on lap 13 when Mellow got loose and lost several positions. The first caution came out on lap 15, when Missy Charette spun in turn four. The top five at this point were Cestodio, Hinckley, Uhrig, Moretti and Robidoux.

Turn four would be a trouble spot for a bit, as John Robidoux spun in turn four on the restart, and Missy Charette followed through after the next restart on lap 15. Once back up and running, Cestodio set the pace, with Uhrig and Hinckley battling for second, with Uhrig using the inside lane. It took only a lap to find the black 11 in second, dropping Hinckley into third. Randy Moretti was using all lanes to get to the front, but on lap 19, the Ray Thibeault Home Improvements Monte Carlo spun, putting him out of contention. The last several laps ran without fanfare, as Swansea’s Scott Cestodio bested the field for his third win of the season. Uhrig finished second, with Hinckley, Chouinard and Mellow rounding out the top five. Tom Blackwell, Robidoux, CJ Mello, Carlos Silvia and Greggerson rounded out the top five.

Fast Friday action continues next Friday night, as the Pure Stocks and the Seekonk Youth Racing Association highlight the night’s action. Karts racing in the back pit area make the $5.00 admission a bargain. For up to the date information, be sure to check out our website at www.seekonkspeedway.com.
