Gray, Brouwer Among Wild N’ Wacky Winners

Waterford, CT — Thomas Gray prevailed in the 20-lap Legends feature race on Wild N’ Wacky Wednesday.

Gray led all but one circuit in taking his first-ever victory in the 20-lap Legends feature event. Hounded by two of the divisions best in Shaun Buffington and Max Zachem during the closing circuits, Gray managed to steal the checkers by a scant margin of .0008 in a classic photo-finish. Buffington, Zachem, point-leader Jason Palmer, and Ricky White III rounded-out the top-5.

Other feature winners were Rob Corey (Super X Car), Patrick Williams (X Car), and Richard “Bubby” Brouwer (X Modified).

Getting-off to a wild start, the first circuit of the 20-lap X-Modified saw a multi-car melee with several machines deposited into the first-turn wall. David O`Leary emerged as the leader following the restart, holding the point until overtaken by Wayne Arute. Defending X-Modified champion Richard “Bubby” Brouwer shot past Arute with fourteen-laps remaining, scoring his third victory of the season. Following was Dean Christensen, Bill Gerstch Jr., and Brian Rondeau.

In the caution-plagued 20-lap Super-X Car feature, Rob Corey passed early-leader 14 year-old Alex Canestrari with 3-circuits remaining to visit victory lane for the fourth time of the season. Following was John Yagmin, Greg Moran Jr., and George Correia.

In 20-lap X-Car action, the team cars of Patrick Williams and point-leader Brad Voglesong dogged every move of early leader Richard Hurne before a daring 3-wide maneuver on the back chute during the closing laps placed Williams in the lead. Completing the top-5 was Hurne, Voglesong, Pete Zaikarite, and John Bowes. The evening marked the second win of the season for Williams.

Special thanks go out to the Atlantic Coast Old Timers for presenting an outstanding 10-lap exhibition event featuring several historic vintage Midget race cars.

Richard Hurne scored the Wild N’ Wacky “Flagpole” race.

Wild N’ Wacky Wednesday continues to draw some of the largest fields in New England.
